All Weather Tires for Michigan

I need new tires for my lude - I was sliding all over the place on my stock tires last winter. What are some alternatives that will improve handling in winter and still have very good grip normally?
Also, should I just get the stock tire dimensions? I noticed some people looking at a little taller sidewall to decrease wheel gap (I'm not lowered since I don't want to get stuck in the snow).
Thanks!

if i were u i'd go with some michelin tires man, some people just go with the aftermarket name brand tires for show and have little performance, michelins are good in wet or dry traction and last long man

Hmm, I would go with a set of snow tires on some steelies for winter.

Otherwise I would suggest Dunlop SP5000s, but not sure if they make them in 205 50 16s.

I run 4 Michelin Artic Alpins on 15" steels in winter, and they grip ice almost as well as Blizzaks, but with much better handling/braking/wear characteristics. Less $$, too.

If you don't do alot of highway driving and want ultimate cold-weather grip, I'd suggest you go with 4 Blizzaks in a 15" size (195/60-QR15).

If you really want to stick with a good all-season, the Dunlop SP5000 is very good, but the only size that works on our cars is 205/55-WR16. That'll get rid of some of the fenderwell gap and give a slightly softer ride, but you'll lose a little steering response and your speedo will read 3% slower than the car is actually going.

Just remember that road salt eats aluminum wheels (not to mention those wheel-bending potholes), and that a set of 4 good winter tires on steel rims is ALWAYS less $$ than your collision deductible, particularly when you consider what a PITA going off the road is.

get pirelli P7000 supersports from www.tirerack.com for like $96 bucks a piece. They are z-rated all season tires and i got some last week and they rule. Very nice!

Ahhhhhh is right, there seem to be too many ludes in michigan, especially in EL. The best bet would be to get snow tires on steelies or on the stocks, and get summer tires on another set of wheels, otherwise in the winter your giving up snow traction to have summer performance, and in the summer, you are giving up grip for being able to drive in the snow. Otherwise you will end up with a crap tire. But any high performance tire is better than the Re92s, those tires are bad in rain, dry, and snow.
