I run 4 Michelin Artic Alpins on 15" steels in winter, and they grip ice almost as well as Blizzaks, but with much better handling/braking/wear characteristics. Less $$, too.
If you don't do alot of highway driving and want ultimate cold-weather grip, I'd suggest you go with 4 Blizzaks in a 15" size (195/60-QR15).
If you really want to stick with a good all-season, the Dunlop SP5000 is very good, but the only size that works on our cars is 205/55-WR16. That'll get rid of some of the fenderwell gap and give a slightly softer ride, but you'll lose a little steering response and your speedo will read 3% slower than the car is actually going.
Just remember that road salt eats aluminum wheels (not to mention those wheel-bending potholes), and that a set of 4 good winter tires on steel rims is ALWAYS less $$ than your collision deductible, particularly when you consider what a PITA going off the road is.
