from what I have read...so this is only my opinon, not fact.
The AEM CAI will give you more top end power gains but you may loose a little torque low down.
The S intake is a better USDM stock one, where you don't loose torque but you gain power across the band, but not as much as an AEM CAI at the top of the band.

If you're just looking for power I would probably go w/the AEM CAI..

I have a JDM Type-S intake w/a K&N filter and there's not really a noticable power difference. I got it cuz it was JDM, gave a (very modest if any) power gain, but still looks like a stock piece if I ever have to bring it into the dealership for warranty work or for autox purposes.. plus it gives off a slightly lower, raspier tone than the stock intake..

The size of the Type-S intake is quite bigger than the OEM U.S. one..

I've owned both. I liked the Type S intake...the Prelude seemed more responsive all across the powerband. It even sounded a little raspier than the USDM intake. They talk about the Type S intake a little from this article: http://www.hyakushiki.com/reads/type-s/index.html

I later moved to the AEM CAI (sold the Type S to "bgod")...wanted more top end. The loss at bottom end is negligible IMO.

I have the Type-S intake as well and also with an aftermarket drop-in filter. The benefits are that it is still a part designed by Honda engineers and is technically "stock" but is also JDM and superior to the USDM ones that came with ours. I love mine but if you're going the performance route then I think the AEM CAI would be the preferred choice.

So regarding the Type-S one, is it an air box replacement using a panel filter?

(I have a K&N panel filter).

the type s one is larger...made for s type throttle bopdy, has a small cylindrical resopnator and apart from that is just a better (straighter) design...

Here's an older pic of mine.. you can reuse the K&N you got for your stock airbox since the type-s only replaces the top part of the airbox..

I have the Type-S intake and concur with what everyone has said. I got mine from http://www.aj-racing.com/ for about $150 US. They quoted me the price in Canadian dollars, so don't be surprised.

OK, silly question here:

Is there any problem with intsalling the Type-S intake on my car (5th gen VTEC)? Is it just a straight replacement and how many parts does it consist of?
