aem ems not available for 2001?!

hey gang,
I was looking at the application guide for the aem ems and I noticed that they have an application listed for other 2001 models like the integra, but for the 5th gen prelude, they only have applications up until 2000.

I figured that they made the application guide prior to 2001 but that doesn't explain why they have other applications for 2001 models of other cars.

Do you think this is a typo? What differences could there be between the 2000 and the 2001 that would make a 2000 ems from aem not work in a 2001?

Um, the AEM EMS is an engine management system And AEM probably just misprinted the ad, because I cannot think of anything honda changed with the ecu between 00 and 01.

umm i think the big difference in the ecu was that, the 2001 have the super duper dual piper supercharger tubo manifold controller system...or just a typo in the printing

I called AEM a while back, and asked them about it. They said it does work for the 2001 Prelude as well. Why they dont have this on their site, I dont know. Id give them a ring, since Im sure you have more questions about the system.

$1500 and you need a lap top to run it. I sure hope you guys know what your getting into buying this. It's not very user friendly.

I haven't commited myself to buying it, but it seems a lot more user friendly than a hondata, which is what attracted me to it in the first place. From what I understand (which can be wrong) you have to switch to obd1, get a harness (~$450) as well as the hondata unit. As long as you've got a laptop (which I have) seems like the aem isn't such a bad way to go... more than likely I'll wait and let someone else pioneer the way. Get some feedback and make my decison then.

When I was dynoing my car, a conversation started about the AEM EMS and the Hondata. According to the guy running the dyno, after all is said and done, the Hondata can cost pretty much the same as an AEM system. He said he could tune either, but the AEM is easier to work with since you dont have to burn chips. I plan on going with the AEM, and just learning the software. Any program at this level of complexity will seem hard to use at first (It did seem a bit cryptic to me initially as well), but the more you use it, the easier it gets. You just have to learn the system. I bet you could spend 2-4 hours with the software and know it inside out.
