Adjusting Timing on an H22A

How can U or can U? I keep being told to check my timing and set it to 16* using a timing light. My distributor has three holes for mounting it; the top two are elongated but the bottom one isnt. once the bolts are in there is no way to turn the distributor to make any changes in timing. I am assuming that honda has already determined where the distrbutor is bolted in at 16* and the ecu is programmed for this value. Is there another way to adjust the timing; i couldnt find any reference in the helms manual. Please enlighten me ohhh great ones that have actually worked on one!!! Thanks

OBD2 H22s are not set up to allow rotation of the distributor to adjust timing because the pertinent sensor was moved to the oil pump.

To find your base timing for neptune, go into the parameters window, go to Main Settings | Options and check the box for "Lock Ignition At" and choose a #. Use 16*, because that's the factory spec.
You then upload the setting, grab your timing light and dial in on that to find what the timing actually is when 16* is forced.

Once you have that number, uncheck Lock Ignition At, go into Preferences and on the first tab (Main) there's a spot to enter base timing. Enter the timing number you found while having the ignition # locked at 16* and you're good.

Setting the base timing is more about having the mechanical aspect (sensor readings) agree with the ECU. If the H22 dist. was adjustable, you could set the base timing to whatever number you want and things would still work fine, as long as the software is aware of the real base timing. (Within reason, the dist houses sensors that also time fuel injection, so you don't want to advance or delay that too much, or cause a situation where the dist is so far in one direction that it physically cannot provide the timing in your maps either advance or retard.)
