I am currently thinking about changing my Prelude Motegi for an Accord Type R and hence have a little insight about the two cars. The Accord Type R does indeed use the H22 engine and it is infact a developed version of the 200BHP H22A8 in my prelude. The main difference being the port and polish on the head which along with other subtle chnages gives 212BHP.

As far as I am aware the gear boxes are very similar except for the eddition of an LSD. The previous owner of my car had problems with chnaging to 5th and to fix it the dealer installed a replacement part from the Accord Type R gear box since it was apparetly improved. In terms of gear ratios again I think they are pretty similar since in a magazine article comparing my Prelude Motegi against the Accord Type R they were pretty much identical in terms of acceleration and top speed, infact my Prelude was quicker (woo hoo!) The only advantage I can see with doing such a swap is for the LSD.

Based on that it would probably be more ecconomical to by an aftermarket LSD or try and import just the Accord Type R LSD.

I'm the SH owner that wants to do it. According to a few, very reputable members on this board. It takes a lot more then what you claim to fit a base tranny to the sh block. I'm just saying I wouldn't assume that the accord type-r tranny will bolt up just because its H22....
