are you sure thats your problem? I just skimmed my helms and saw nothing of the sorts. All sorts of rebuilds on various parts of the a/c system, but no actual replacement of freon. Did you check any/all fuses, a/c belt, and proper filters? just my $0.02

I believe we our cars don't use freon but the R134 stuff. You can find those in cans at your local Kragen. I believe they come with instructions also. Hope that helped.

I also think that the R134 refrigerant needs to be replaced every few years or so depending on the frequency of use and how stale your current refrigerant is. I believe you're supposed to run your ac at least once a week for a few minutes to keep the refrigerant in the system fresh.

i wasn't so sure myself if our 5th gens use freon, i just assumed coz most cars use them, ill try that R134 thing. if not i'll just call the dealer or wait till someone here that knows the subject add his/her .2 cents on this thread. and with the heat wave going on here on the east coast my AC is always on

I had a similar problem after I had my car for just year. The AC was not cold for some reason. Took it into the dealer. They noticed that the refrigerant was low so they added a dye to the refrigerant and looked for leaks using UV light. They took out the condenser, but could not find any leak. They just filled the refrigerent back up and I haven't had a problem since. Strange indeed. This was done under the warranty so I didn't pay anything.

I would not attempt to do this since I don't think you can get the same refrigerant commercially anymore and I don't think it's as easy to do as in older cars. Just take it in to the dealer. You might have a leak.

If your ac is not cold, STOP USING IT IMMEDIATELY. If it is low on freon and you continue to use it it will heat up and blow. Your condenser and evaporator and all that ****. The reason is the gas has 2 purposes, to help create the cold air and to also act as the lubricant. No gas, no lubricant. Eventually the ac will sieze and your pulley will stop but the belt will continue to spin around the siezed pulley until it blows too. I'm telling you this because it happened to me this spring, not in my honda but in my other car,(nissan). I had a long talk with the technician about it and he explained it to me. They are certified to work on all makes and he told me my honda works the exact same way. The bill by the way was 1700 bucks, everything had to be replaced and you can't buy used stuff because of all the laws concerning proper gas removal and transportation and everything. Needless to say I didn't repair it, under my mechanics advice. At the first sign have it checked, because when it goes, it goes fast.
