99 SH won't start.

I don't know what is wrong with it. I was driving down the highway on Friday, going about 70 when I started losing power. The gas was not responding, and was dificult to push in. I managed to get off the highway and coast into a parking lot, but it wouldn't start again. It made a tapping/clanking noise when I try to start it. I got it towed home and took the valve cover off. The timing belt is a little loose, and my uncle thinks that the auto-tensioner failed and it jumped a tooth. Do you think that it bent any valves or caused any more serious damage? I just want to know if it is worth trying to fix myself, or if I should take it to a shop, (which I don't have the money for ).

if the timing belt is loose, it def could be a tensioner failure. also could have bent some valves too...
