99 Prelude Help Me Quiet My Exhaust

Hello everyone,

I got pulled over today and got a citation for 27151 (a) VC "mod exhaust" in California.

27151. (a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.

I have a 99 prelude. I bought the car with all the mods which include: aem intake, dc sports headers, full blox exhaust (straight pipe no cat converter).

I was wondering if anyone can help me determine what I need to replace to correct this violation. Do i just need to find a full stock prelude exhaust and I will be fine? If so, where can i find the parts? I am trying to find the CHEAPEST possible alternative to correct the violation. Thank you!

go to a local salvage yard and just buy a stock exhaust. If not a Prelude, off some other type of car. I have a 05-06 RSX-s muffler and just had new piping put on so that it'd work with my car

First off - you need a cat in Cali

just order an OBX or Magnaflow cat (since stock ones are so damn expensive)

makes sure you order the proper size. If the header doesn't have any carb legal bs stamped on it you may not pass inspection. So you may need a header if so - the cat should match the collector from the header.

go to an exhaust shop and have them make you a new exhaust with a stock looking muffler. You can go to stock size - or have them do 2.5" or 3" and get a stock "style" muffler, If you go with anything over stock size piping - be sure to get 1 or 2 resonators... that'll really quite it down.

i dont know any of the piping sizes considering i did not do any of the mods and previous owner replaced the entire exhaust. so i think i will take it to a shop and see what they recommend. there also isnt any carb stamp on my headers, i just checked. so i need to replace my entire exhaust from headers to muffler basically? i also have an h22a jdm motor. does that increase sound? What kind of prices am i looking towards?

No catalytic converter is your first problem, followed by an aftermarket exhaust that is one of the louder options for our prelude next to the HKS or Buddy Club exhausts.

I'd recommend an oem replacement catalytic converter from vibrant/obx/magnaflow and (1) 22'' Magnaflow resonator

Ebay has both for great prices.
