99 Lude TraNNy Swap... SS--> 5 Speed [[Read]]

ok, so i have a 99 lude, with the ****ty ss transmission.
i bought it early january this year, with 138,xxx miles... and the tranny was rebuilt at around 115,xxx miles.
So right now, its got 144,xxx miles, and the tranny has been giving me thee usual problems for about 2 weeks now, i stoppd driving it last friday and ive been looking into a swap to a 5 speed after reading everyones opinions on here...

So, i found this guy on craigslist
honda acura swaps
who said he will charge me around $1,800 including all parts/labor and he offers lifetime on his work, and like 90 days on parts.
I had first talked to another mechanic who said he would get me a new tranny and put it in all for about 1500. but this would be another ****ty ss tranny.

so for about 300 more, i'd rather get the 5 speed manual transmission and not have to worry as much bout it giving me problems in the future.

My question is, does $1,800 sound about right? my friend said that was a really good price, so should i go for it? what precautions should i take...? Thanks.

Where is he located? I've also been looking into the swap as well, and from what i've researched that price is good to go. But a lot of people has been telling me they recommend doing otherwise...

$1,800 parts and labor

There is now way he can do the swap for $1,800 parts and labor. For him to quote you that shows that he obviously has no clue what the swap entails.

update...

ok so i called a few buddies up and had them ask a few ppl around for the pricing on the swap. i got 2 responses and they were both for around $2,000 - $2,100...

another thing, the parts would obviously not be new, used parts from cars here and there, and he said he would most likely put in a tranny from a 97. if i wanted a new one say 2000, or 2001 it'd be around $2,200.

as to his location, he's located in Baldwin Park, CA.
iM in Pomona, CA...

funny you say that he's probably never done a swap in a prelude, he happened to mention that he just did a swap on a prelude about a month ago.....

as of right now, it seems like a really good offer, so i might jump on it and see what happens.

I recall solid stating this to me...

"Needs to be new
Shift cables
Master cylinder
Slave cylinder
Hydraulic lines
Half-shaft"

Anyway, i believe you must buy 'some' new parts for the swap, not all can be entirely used?

Then I would not be comfortable until you got to inspect that Prelude he swapped a month ago.

I doubt the master was put in the correct spot, and I doubt that the re-enforcement bracket for the pedal was fabricated or removed from a base 5spd chassis. You get what you pay for.
