98 auto tranny prob I think?

Was at a stop today and car started to sorta jump FWD. Not bad just little jumps. Put it in park back in gear and speedo was jumping all over the place up down. Car seemed to shift good still drove another 4-5 miles to work. Check engine light comes on and 4th gear indicator light was flashing. The car had a new not rebuilt auto tranny put in about 40k ago the car has 142k on it now. The rest of the car is in awesome shape. WTF is up with this thing. I dont know much about the cras as a whole I bought it from my boss who had it since it was new. Should I just get rid of it while I can I only got it as a daily driver. I take care of it but I am not in love with the car.

Yeah i think that is going to happen real quick here. I just need to fix this dang thing first. I think after some more research it may be the VSS. How much am I looking to replace that?

The VSS top unit is only about $50.00

You should also check the solenoids for debris and check to make sure they're in oem specs. Did that trans have a warranty?

BTW: you should save up for a swap, cheaper then a rebuild.

Are you asking or making a statement?

I don't think just swapping a transmission will gain you horsepower. It's probably more in the weight reduction, lighter flywheel, clutch etc.
