97 SH power steering leak

Hey guys I have a leak coming from the high pressure hose on top of the power steering pump. I was wondering how to remove and install a new hose without having to lift the engine on that side? Any help in this matter would be greatly appriciated. Thank You

Get out the service manual and some tools.

Is the hose broken? Could it be a seal that just needs to be replace?

Yeah if the hose isn't leaking on the rubber portion past the pump but from the pump were the hose goes in I'd replace that o-ring first, they are a common leaker.

Well to let you know it is coming from the hose (rubber portion) I still do not want to take it to a dealership because I know they rape people when it comes to labor and honda wants $224.96 for this hose. I want to shoot this hose lol.
Any ideas

If your broke you can remove the belt and drive without power steering, if you let the system run dry you'll destroy the pump and cost yourself more money.

Buy a new hose and do it yourself, it's super easy, 2 bolts on the pump, 1 on the rack under the car, brackets that hold it and you'll have to swap the sensor from the old to the new.

So i took the belt off today and am getting ready to drive it. Because this is an SH do I have to lift the engine to get room to take the hose off because there does not seem to be any room? I should be working for Acura very soon as a Service Advisor so i might just have them do it lol.

Did you ever get this replaced? I have the same leak but on a base model. Some here say this is a simple fix, others say the engine needs to be lifted to access the hose bolt on the PS gearbox. The factory manual doesn't really say how to get access to that, so I'm not certain and I haven't found any documentation of anyone having replaced a PS hose themselves.

I've wrapped the hose with silicone tape and clamped it tight to reduce leaking while I figure this out, but it's getting worse. It sounds smart for me to just pull the belt until I decide what I need to get this completed.

Any thoughts on the ~$160 for Honda OEM from Majestic, MagAuto, etc. versus the ~$130 for NAPA, Duralast, etc?

You guys are crazy if you think you need to raise the engine to pull the hose out, just undo the line from the rack under the car then go up top and pull it out. Just make sure you unplug the sensor and swap it over to the new hose.

I don't know why I keep hearing this about this repair job. Is there possibly something about the SH that makes it hard to access the hose to the steering rack in that model, maybe? Everyone I found doing this repair when I have searched says that they gave up and paid to have it done - some were charged hundreds of dollars in labor! I'm about to find out how this goes, though - parts are on order.

mrk78, I had no real problems replacing it myself. Again, mine is a base, so I probably have more room to work without an ATTS unit to deal with. getting the new line to seat properly in the rack so that the nut would threadwas a major PITA and required me going back and forth from above reaching down to the rack and from underneath reaching around the rack. Finally managed it, though. Otherwise, it wasn't too bad, not even the bolt that 505ludelove mentioned was all that tough.

The return line in my car is now leaking but that is a different matter.
