....and it was the alternator. Noise gone. success.
It tested out fine electrically, which I expected...but oddly I couldn't really hear the noise when the guy at AutoZone ran it on a test stand. Not sure if they just dont spin it fast enough or if the safety door of the machine blocked the noise. I think I'll replace the bearings and sell it on eBay as used.
i have a 99 prelude i bought 2 months ago it has 203,000 miles and runs amazing other than the whining sound on the drivers side. everyone has told me that its the ac compressor.. idk what to do cause after reading this im second guessing the ac compressor now. any help would be awesome!

Has anything been replaced recently like within 10 months or so? Like any of the belts under the hood?
