I have a 97 prelude automatic which i want to change to manual. i also want to get my engine to the best shape it can be. i would like some info on this project i want to get myself into since i dont know much about mechanics. when i comes to electrical and cosmetic im good but cant do mechanics.
there are lots of threads about this already, but ill say this much, if you dont know much about mechanic work then idk if u should jump into this. unless you have the hook up with someone who can help. but take some time, do some research and see how u feel about it afterwards. good luck mayn.
Agree with manik, you should probably find a friend or someone who can at the very least give you some guidance and lend a hand when you need a wrench or some more pulling power.
Secondly, you should probably search for the member "rompirate" thread for swapping to a manual.
DITTO on what pIERCE said, I used rompirate's writeup on 5spd swap to do my 5th gen lude it is a big job I finished the swap 3 months ago I had a donor car and all the parts except the intermeadiate shaft and im still workin out some of the hiccups I drive it daily but, E-light such and such.... good luck

^^^ im worried about these "hiccups" as well but im swapping the engine harness as well and just need to find someone that can solder my ecu then i think all should be well.
Best advice: Sell it and buy a 5spd with an engine that's already tip-top.

I'm new here, but not around cars. I don't understand spending tons of $$ to do something that is already out there.
T.C.
why turbo a car, when turboed cars are already out there??
thats what came to mind with previous statement..
sometimes it easier to modify a car whos history is known, rather than to buy somene else project.
Obviously, you misunderstood the intent of my Post. I'm not talking about a modification like a Turbo, but it just seems to me if someone wants a manual tranny, it would be much easier & cheaper to just buy one that the Factory made.
NO mis understanding...
shoulda -woulda -coulda.. (seems almost childish)
Im sure if things were planned out like that.. he would have bought a 5 spd.. but unfortunatly everybody makes do with what they have..
currently HE has an AUTOMATIC, and wants info.. to chage it.
you will need:
obviously a 5 spd trans, with shifter and cable.
you can modify your ecu, so you dont get a cell.. (theres a guide to do that)
5 speed pedals, clutch master/ slave cylinder (if for some reason its not on the trans)
clutch lines.
transmision mount and motor mount.
clutch/ flywheel. and flywheel bolts
im sure theres a few more things. but these are the major pieces.
since ive never done a auoto to manual on a prelude. I did do a motor swap from a D to B series. and changed everything from auto to manual. the hardest thing was to find the right motor mount and not pay an arm or a leg... so I fabricated one..
man you need to talk to memebr LUKEA192 on here, he jsut did an auto to manual conversion and although he is havign some issues with flywheel, he knwos that whoel process pretty good as he did the work himself. If it were me, he would be the one i talk to.
....well really i woudl not have bought ****tysport lude.....
