Hey i have a 1997 honda prelude sh 168k miles. when i first bought this car it ran perfect. this was in the summer time. the only problem i can think of is one time i took it to a car wash and as i was leaving CEL came on and my car went into limp mode and wouldnt go past 3k rmp. i took it to she shop he said a sensor had made it go into limp mode but i have no idea right now what sensor it was. he cleared it and said if the problem continues to bring it back. so i was on my way. about 5 moths later as the weather started to cool my car started to have a no spark issue. The car cranks at a normal speed and gets fuel and air but no spark not even from the coil. the weird thing is that the car starts and runs like a champ in warm weather. anything above 60F. anything lower than that the car will either keep cranking or if the weather is close enough to 60 it will stumble and some of the plugs will get spark and some wont. if i keep cranking it eventually i can get spark to all plugs and the car will turn on and run fine after that until i leave it out and the engine goes completely cold again and the problem happens all over again. i have been through so much with this car and the problem is too hard to find i need some help. i garage my car every night so i can drive it.
i got a new ECM. nothing.
Got a new ICM. nothing
took it to a honda specialist and. nothing, the best he could come up with was the immobilizer, which i think isnt it cuz the key light is not on.
i ran the icm no spark test and everything ran okay. and it said if everything is okay replace the ICM i did and nothing... i checked the main relay and it was good.
I am just confused on what in the starting system could be temperature related.
Oh yeah and i took the car to the Honda dealer and they said they couldnt find the problem and they couldnt pull the vin on my car to check for recalls so they gave up. i also was about to check the CKP but the tach wire i tested on the ICM testing said that it was fine.
I am a student a high school with a great auto tech class and i have all the tools to find the problem but its got me stumped. any idea? i also have a video of the problem. Check it out please
