5th gen prelude vs 2001 or 2002 celica GTS whats better and what would u get?

5th gen prelude vs 2001 or 2002 celica GTS whats better and what would u get? In tersm of performance, handling, exterior and interior looks, reliability, problems, warranty etc... I think Toyota has better service vs Honda.

Both cars are about the same price

-The prelude has 200HP while the Celica GTS has 180
-The prelude is discontinued, the Celica is not
-Rare 5 speed New 2001 Models for Lude..Celica LOTS NEW
-The prelude interior is "old school" 1980 looks
-The Celica interior is awesome
-The Celica doors the window part has no frame thats so sleek
-Prelude has better handling i think
-Prelude has VTEC ( the VTEC sound is GREAT )
-Prelude exterior looks better IMHO
-Celica girls car?
-Celica bit too round
-Price of Celica why not RSX TYPE S? But rsx ugly
-Celica BUcket sEATs so nice
-Preludle more room front and back
-Celica is a hatchback

I like both

What do you guys think?

I remember you already posted this kind of thread long time ago.....

I like my lude....

sorry the interior of celica looks cheap compared to lude.. too much hard plastic.. and the back seat is horrible.. (not that lude's backseat is much better though)

since you're on a prelude board, everyone is going to tell you to get the lude. I'll take the lude, i test drove the gts before, the interior is ok but you can't see jack in the back, the rear window is so small. The exterior style is a little to desire. and their vvtl-i don't sound as good. plus i see a lot of girls around here driving them.

The 2002 Celica GTS is significantly slower than the 2000 and 2001 GTS. The rev limiter kicks in artificially early on the 2002 GTS. The common theory is that Toyota lowered the rev limiter because of all the mis-shifted engines they replaced under warranty.

Celica has the cheapest interior I've ever seen. It's all plastic. Have you sat in one? The dash is cheap too.

I think the 2K1 Celica will respond better to mods. You also have the benefit of having a new platform that aftermarket companies are still developing for. Contrast that to the Prelude - hell, Honda doesn't even make our OEM kits anymore. At least let the body get cold first As for the 2K2 Celica, I have also heard stories about the decreased redline and performance.

But if you get a Celica, you better get the GTS and you better get it in stick - the autos are pretty damn slow from everyone I've talked to. The styling is pretty questionable to me, I think the back end looks pretty fugly. It's a very nice car in blue or black though.

I've heard it's hard to keep the engine in VVTL-i or whatever their VTEC equivalent is, but that depends on your driving skillz...why don't you take it out for a spin and see how it feels?

I like the Celica and I would definitely consider it in the future... but bang for the buck, I would stick with the Prelude...

Not to be rude....but you should consult a Celica board....obviously a lot of us here will be biased... I like the Celica alright... but I still would choose the lude over it personally. It's a better package IMO. Not to mention it has classic looks that the Celica can't match.

Let's see, back in November when I was looking into buying a new car that's around $24k. There were serveral cars that I was looking at. And the Celica GTS was one of them. I liked the interior. I liked the fact that the console was cockpit like. My friend has an auto GT and she likes the car a lot and I drove a few times. I thought the car was quite responsive. Honestly, I would have bought the GTS if they dealership didn't quote me $10k for my 00Si. As for the Celica being a girls car. I think that I see more girls driving GT model and more males with the GTS. At the end, I chose the Prelude because I got more money for my 00Si at the Honda dealership. I liked the fact that the celica was smaller than the Prelude. I don't like big cars. I think power to weight ratio, the celica has an edge but not much. The sound of the motor when its "screaming"...that's really up to the driver. Then again if you were me and plan to boost the car...eheheh, the BOV will solve problem with the sound department. The interior for the prelude is indeed outdated but I kind of liked it. I'm also in the liking that not many people have Preludes. I like being rare. I got sick with the Si since everyone and their mother and their mother's mother has a civic and it would the same case with the RSX and WRX that I was looking at. Plus the fact that, the RSX and WRX were only in the first year of production and already so many on the street. And the fact that the possiblity of the type R and STi coming here...I'd feel like crap when the higher model makes it here. But most importantly...the EVO 7 was coming here...screw the STi. =P So at the end, I'm a Prelude owner.

The plastic material (especially for the control knobs, switches, buttons, console, etc.) used in most Toyota cars has never been appealing to me. They only serve the purpose but not quite as sophisticated as those used in Honda cars. Even the Prelude's interior does not keep up with the futuristic styling, it is very elegant and ergonomic. The switches, knobs, etc. are made of fine plastics and the operation is super precise.

Before I bought the lude I test drove some Celicas. A couple of them had the carbon fiber-look console package installed. Those were direct stick-on trim kit that you attach directly over the existing panels. I was surprised to find that when I opened the center storage cover/door (a triangle shape door on top of the center console), it would not stay open due to the added weight of the carbon fiber ornament. What kind of design was that? On the contrary, the similar kit used for Prelude is a replacement part for the panel. It maintains the original integrity and fits perfectly.

Those may be pretty minor things to most people but I consider them as a thoughtful design effort. By the way, what the heck is the antenna??? Even the Civic uses print-on-glass antenna now!

Do what I did, drive the two and buy the one you like. I chose the prelude, you might like the celica. I still like my SS more than a 6spd celica but thats just me

I taught some guy how to drive stick, he paid me, cuz he learned on my lude. Well his parents bought him a 2002 celica gt-s (i convinced him to get a stick, 6 speed as opposed to 4speed sportshift) and he got it, came with TRD action package and ****. Anyway i had to drive it home from the dealer for him cuz he wasn't good yet, and his parents didn't trust him. I like the 6 speed, but goin from 2nd to 3rd isn't that good. The throw is shorter than the lude, and u dont have to press as far down on the clutch.. although the throw is short, no short throw can compare with the s2k =-) anyway. I liked the celica's bucket seats, but i hated the window, and with his bigass spoiler the rearward visibility was horrible. Oh and IMO, i hate how the celica looks. I think it's pretty fugly, i'd rather get an RSX type-S, although that's kinda fugly too. The RSX type-S would be the best deal out of the 3, prelude handle's the best though. And the VVTL-i isn't as loud as vtec (no i didn't hit vvtl-i in his car, he did it when he got home and i was riding shotgun..) and recently he's been complaining about the rev-limiter. Oh and those ugly orange taillights eww. =-P.

edit: the interior was pretty ugly and had less footwell (width) room than the lude. I'm pretty short so it doesn't matter but meh.. oh and i hate how the celica's front end is so short, i like how the lude's is long to accomodate the 2.2L =-P Maybe i'm a LITTLE biased, but i seriosuly think the celica and RSX are fugly, the celica looks like a cockroach.. the RSX is just too high..
