5th gen, H22A Trouble..Please Help

Well i bought my 97 base in March. The CEL was always on, i ran the code and it was the IAC Valve. Then last month the motor would rattle, then began spraying oil/coolant out the exhaust.
So i had my friend bring his friend(certified mechanic from uti) come over to work on it, they came the other day disconnecting and took everything out, swapped gaskets and started putting everything back in.
This is when he starts leaving out hoses, screws, and brackets. Him and my friend say that i dont really need them so i went along with it.
Now at idol there is a rapid bounce/sourge of about 20/40 rpms, there is a constant clicking noice around the heat shield(maybe need a valve adjustment), and after the car heats a little, when i rev the motor it make a whistling noice like a turbo is winding up, only part that suck is...I dont have a turbo. I also notice my car seems to warm up faster now.

The cel is still on and now its for an o2 sensor malfunction.(code 41)

It looks like the small hoses around the intake and im arent connected properly and there are 2 metal hose connection pieces without hoses conected to them down undernieth the left radiator fan.

So if anyone can help me out or atleast post some pictures of the im, valve cover, cruise control area and the hoses that conect to the radiator that would be Greatly Appreciated!!

You let your friends convince you that all the parts that came out didnt need to go back in?

Do you have a Helm manual? If not get one, compare the things you're seeing with what should be there and go from there.

Next I see you have yourself listed as using a JDM H22a, did you swap all the necessary parts to make the car OBD-II compliant? If not I'm going to suspect many more problems are going to come especially getting through inspection in NJ.

So did they swap the necessary sensors to keep you OBD-II compliant?

some brackets and stuff arent 100% necessary for the car to run but personally i want all my brackets unless the part its meant to hold is removed or something. But them removing a bracket isnt going to put oil in your exhaust. For oil coming out of the exhaust, i would check the seals around the plugs, otherwise the only 2 ways oil can get into the combustion chamber is valve seals or rings. I dont know what seals this guy was changing but unless it was those few he was wasnt money and time because nothing else would cause oil to spit out the exhaust.

As for the whistling sound the first thing that comes to mind would be maybe to check your belt tension.

Whistling sound may also be due a vacuum line that's now disconnected or missing. If he left hoses on the ground after the job was done, that's another clue. Any chance you can get him back to actually put things together the right way? Getting a car to run faster on a track is one thing; getting it to run reliably as a daily driver and pass emissions is another...

oil was coming out from the blown headgasket before he came, now there is no oil, just the whistling and ratteling, he was having trouble with the tensioner though so im afraid that might be the problem

Can someone PLEASE post some pics? Where does the hose that connects to the bottom of the iac valve attach to?

I dont have any close up pics but one of those brackets goes on the top of the valve cover towards the driver side rear. It holds a coolant hose from rubbing the valve cover, one of the bolts is probably there that secures it. The one vacuum line might be the one that runs from the TB to the factory airbox, I can see in one picture it was looped which is normal. The line coming off the back of the valve cover (passenger side rear side) should be routed into the AEM intake. That larger clamp I believe is to attach a bracket for routing smaller hoses with one of the larger radiator hoses.

I'll stand by other post, get a Helm manual and figure it out on your own. It'll give you a better idea of where everything goes, what it does, and if it needs to be there or not.
