5th gen - Getting my valves adjusted - NEED ADVICE

Ok, well I found this guy that has an Integra GSR with roughly the same mileage as me. His driving style is pretty much the same as mine, except I've had my car a little longer than him. He went to this guy that we both know who works at a performance shop. He had his valves adjusted, tuned, whatever you wanna call it. Everybody said that it made a real big difference on his car. Now, I want to go to this guy too. My car has ~40k. He said that he'll do the job for 65 bucks. Now should I go ahead and do it? I really don't know this kid, but everybody says he knows what he's doing. Can he mess anything up or make my car slower than it is?

Perhaps your buddy's valves on his GSR were way out of wack which is why it seems to have made a big difference to his car (after the adjustment). BTW, has your buddy been able to quantify that statement?
Adjusting the valves is a pretty straight forward job. The worst thing he could do is use the wrong feeler gauge and set them either too tight or loose.

Well ok, here's the deal. I have 39k miles on my car. Its always driven hard. I have stock plugs, stock cap + rotor and wires. I've been feeling that the car is a little sluggish, not as quick as it was. I cleaned out the air filter and that helped a bit. I'm also getting DC Sports Header and AEM Pulleys installed within the next couple of days. And I want the maximum performance. I mean I figure what's the point of installing performance parts if I'll only gain back the HP that I lost. I'm thinking maybe it's my valves are out of wack because everybody told me that the plugs and wires should be good for like 80k in preludes without a problem. I'm thinking about maybe changing the distributor cap and rotor, but I'm open to suggestions. I'm thinking that for 65 bucks it can't be a bad thing to adjust the valves, since I have many miles on the car and since its driven hard. Any help? Suggestions?

I would not have thought adjusting the lash would change that much, unless they are way loose...you are just talking about a valve lash adjust right..... putting the gap back to factory spec.
