5th gen gauge cluster question

I want to replace the magnetic motor that moves the rpm gauge in my 5spd lude but so far i've only found SS lude gauge clusters for sale. The rpm gauge in SS looks a bit different. here's some pix.
here is 5speed

here is SS

i only need the motor because that's what makes my needle not run smooth. My question is... is the motor the same in both clusters and the actual cluster moves the motor to the right position, so that if i use SS motor in 5speed it'll work fine?

am I right? has anyone tried this?

..where'd you read that from man? I think hes talking about the motor that actually moves the needle in the tachometer. and to answer his question - I don't know! haha

..my suggestion would be to try to find out the part numbers for this "motor" that you're talking about and see if they are the same. if they are the same then it should work.. if not, then I guess they're different. I'm not sure if a Helms manual would contain that info but you could try asking someone here if they could look it up for you.

yeah, i think the part number is a good idea. I can only find out part number of the motor for 5speed. Could anyone check the part number for SS? I'd really appreciate that.

I thought honda only sold the gauge cluster as a whole? If you have to get a whole gauge cluster why don't you just replace the whole thing? it'll be a lot easier wouldn't it?

yes it would be, but i have a chance of getting an SS cluster for $85USD, brand new one costs around $250 so i wanna buy SS one for cheap and fix up mine. I've already taken the whole thing apart a couple of times so I'm pretty sure i could pull it off.

i just need to know if the motors are the same in both ss and 5speed clusters.

i c, i say you hit up a junkyard. you'll prolly find a base cluster for cheaper. and it'll be hassel free.

dude, are those NR white gauges? If they are they may not be installed correctly, I have them and installed them and the niddle did not work correctly because the gauge was rubbing it and caused it not to work correctly. If that is the problem you need to use the double side tape right around the hole where the niddle comes through the gauge. I hope if that was the problem I helped in some way.

i know what u're saying but that's not my problem. I've checked this many times and i even tried it without the white gauges on and it was still the same. I'm sure it's the motor.
