5th Gen AEM Pulley Kit - A Review by Antidote 11

Hey everybody, what's up ?!!

Well I got my AEM Pulley kit installed on Saturday and must say that it is the best mod I have ever done on a car that I owned.
They are definitely worth it and are a great bang for the buck.
I noticed much better throttle response, and quicker acceleration.
They also took away from the lag that accompanies having the AC on. And I would have to estimate at about a 5 HP gain. Not too bad at all for 200 bucks !!

On another note.....things I didn't notice. I didn't notice that my lights dimmed at idle, they are fine......I noticed that my AC gets as cold, almost seems like it gets colder.....also, the power windows moving slower thing, I have yet to experience that and belive that I never will.

Also, these pulleys (I got silver) look bad ass under the hood as well, and are much, much more lightweight, and substantially larger than the stock pulleys. I will post some pics of them soon, and pics of the AEM Pulleys next to the Stock pulleys, there is a fairly large difference in the size, so with all that said, I definitelyreccomend these pulleys to anyone !!

I had a local shop install them for me. It took the tech about 2 hours to install them, and I was out there chatting with him the whole time, and it didn't seem hard, just time-consuming. The most difficult part I could see was just simply removing the alternator. It was a very tight fit. And then of course getting the alternator put back in with a lrger pulley put on. I don't have the correct tools for it, so I didn't attempt it. But if you have some general knowledge of cars and the right tools, it shouldn't be too difficult at all.

Give it sometime the windows will slow down and sometimes get stuck until you rev it up. The A/C will not be cool at idle in heavy traffic.

I'm not using the alt. pulley on my swap and I'm so much happier.

I have heard some people say that it does do those things and some say it never has. My friends up at the shop said they have yet to see or have someone complain about anything like that, and assured me that if it did, they would refund my money and even let me keep the pulleys on there....so I was like damn, they are pretty certain that those things will never happen, so hopefully it won't.

If I wasn't bothering him and talking and bull****ting, it probably would have taken him about an hour or so, give or take. It just seemed like getting the alternator out was a ***** !!

Ive had mine in for like 6 months now... I noticed that the air isn't QUIET as cold as it used to be... but thats it.

Also.. man-- you're tech guy is slow.. it took my guy like 20 minutes to install them-- still got charged for the hour- but generaly, my time is worth more to me than my money.

Yeah took about 35 minutes to put mine. We wasted 5 minutes cause we dropped a socket between the radiator and bumper.

The shop that did my swap seemed pretty surprised with my experience with the alt. pulley. I didn't have stalling problems in traffic until this fall, so maybe alt. was going too. The windows, lights, and other accessories not a full power can suck when your sitting in traffic.

I really don't know how long it is supposed to take, but I know he has been working on Hondas for a few years. But then again, he did say that he hadn't done many Pulley installs on 5th gen preludes, so who knows. But if it took you 20 minutes, than I would have to say that that's pretty damn fast man !! : )

Once your car is warmed up, you will notice that your headlights dim, and you will hear the fan speed slow down on you a/c until you revs get above ~1000. Someone on this board put a dyno up for his 5th gen with the pulleys and he had a 9 hp increase!

Thinking back, I wish I had done a before and after dyno. But you can feel that it gives you some noticable gain, and 9 HP is a bad ass little chunk of power for the price. : )

Hi, I was wondering all these problems happening, does it go for all the ludes, i mean base, SH, and SS? Just wondering, if i do have those pulley's on and haev problems like the window and lighting, when I do take them off, will everything be ok again? Is there a reason why it has problems like this? Also does it void warrentee cuz some people say it does and some say it doesn't. Thanks

I have never seen any thing that would even resemble those probs. I would think that maybe the belts might be gettin lose if you are experiencing these probs.

I recently got my pullies installed..like a week ago! It seems to have given me some hp...but I realize that my alternator doesnt charge the battery nearly as quick as it used to! My lights dim..my windows sometimes are slow to roll up! Ever since I put those suckerz on...I have been experiencing some problems with battery, alternator, etc! What might the installer have done wrong? It's still a nice mod though!
