5th Gear grinding, please help.

Whenever i merge on the highway, i can't get my 97 lude in 5th gear without grinding even though the clutch is all the way down. The only way to get it in gear is to let the rpms drop all the way down to about 1000 and then it goes in without a problem. I can shift all the other gears without any problem even at redline(i never do it, but i tried once) and they are 100% fine. My clutch works fine without any slips whatsoever.

this is a common problem with 5th gens. It is your 5th gear syncho. The only way to fix it is drop the transmission and take it a part to witch out synchros. If I were you I would wait until you need a new clutch to get it done. You just have to deal with it for a while. I have this problem as well and if I double clutch it, it goes in fine.

So about double clutching, i've been around standard transmissions for years but i started driving one 2 months ago, now i can't say i'm a pro but i drive and shift like one(Not even kidding haha). I understand that double clutching is lets say you are on 4th gear, clutch in, push to neutral, clutch out, rev the engine, clutch in and then put it in 5th. Whats the correct revs coz i once reved it to about 4k rpms doing around 50mph and the car shook so i got scared that i'd break something now i don't try to do it i let my clutch take the heat and rev match by itself.

For me, i dont have to rev it up once its in neutral so it wont grind. I push clutch in, go to neutral, let clutch out, push clutch back in, shift to fifth and this solves gear grind for me. Im gonna just have to deal with it for a while until I can get it fixed.

EDIT: my car has just started getting the gear grind so its not as bad as others I have read about. I just dont want it to get worse so I started double clutching as soon as I felt it the first few times about 2 months ago.

Oh well, i'll just have to till i need a new clutch. Do you have an idea of how much it would cost me above the normal clutch job, like if lets say a clutch job is $500, how much would it for a clutch and the synchros.

^^Keep in mind you are ****ing up your gear and possibly your shift fork when it grinds. The more you grind(or longer period you go before fixing it), the more damage done.

i had that too, my solution was to slam it home with no hesitation. 99% of the time it'd go in with no grinding. Probably bad advice but i did this for years and didn't do any damage.
