5 speed transmissions that will fit 01 Prelude

Hello,

My transmission is about to die in my 01 Prelude (non SH). I drive a TON of miles with my job and I need a replacement transmission. I am not concerned with gear ratios... just need something to get my car back to life. What different 5 speed transmissions will bolt up? I would really appreciate models rather than numbers (Accords from ___ up, Prelude from ____ up)

From searching... I think the answer is Accords 94 and up but I'm not sure on the Preludes. I know the SH won't work but I am unsure which Prelude transmissions other than 5th Gen will work.

Thanks in advance

90 and up accords share the same transmisison...they are cheap but you won't be happy.

The 4th gen prelude tranny's work too, IIRC. The accord trans will probably get you the best mpg, but it's also not going to be geared as closely as the stock 5th gen.

Will the transmission from every 4th gen Prelude work? From what I can tell there were several different options for motors in the 4th gen.

2.0L 133 hp I4 I 2.2L 135 hp I4 S
2.3L 160 hp I4 Si
2.2L 190 hp I4 VTEC

Thanks

As far as I know, any transmission that mounts to the F series or H series engines will fit.

If I were you I'd get another base model prelude trans or rebuild you're current one. Transmission rebuild parts are cheap, the labor is the only lame part. If you have taken good care of the transmission then you should only need to replace syncros and other not so expensive parts.

I originally was leaning in the same direction as far as having the transmission rebuilt. However, I haven't been able to find the parts to rebuild it cheap at all. Any suggestions?

Currently I am looking for a really cheap wrecked prelude because I have two of them (97 and 01) and I figure I could pick parts for both of them from the wreck.

Can you be more specific? Why is your transmission about to die?

Miles... miles and more miles. Closing in on 300,000. It doesn't want to go in first gear, is tough to shift between gears and makes noise when it is in gear... especially first gear.

I didn't get into specifics because I am not trying to diagnose what I have... I am certain that it is worn out. I just wanted to make sure of what would fit.

Thanks
