My car is in the shop right now getting a tranny swap but my mechanic is telling
me that the 4th gen tranny will not fit on my 5th gen because of the mounts not
lining up. I've asked a couple of members and few shops that the 4th gen tranny
should be a straight swap on non SH 5th gen.
I went to the shop today and he showed me that it does not line up. I dont have
the actual picture of the tranny itself but I got a picture off yahoo and edited it
to show which bolts i'm talkin about.
can anybody help? is this not possible or i need to buy a conversion mount ?
Are you sure it is 4th Gen Prelude Tranny? I had a local place here try to pawn off an accord tranny on me and the studs didnt line up. I ended up getting the 4th Gen JDM LSD tranny and everything matched right up with my 5th Gen Mounts, etc. Plug-n-Play.

if u are doing an auto SS to 5 speed swap, the mounts does not line up becuz the auto tranny mount and the 5 speed tranny mount is different. What u need to do is get the 4th or 5th gen 5 speed tranny mount.

Bingo!
In order to swap 4th and 5th gen trannies, the tranny mount on the passenger side needs to be changed. It bolts to the 3 bolts you have circled in your picture. I've never touched an SS, but I think the mounting is the same.

I did the swap on my lude and i am sure that the auto and 5 speed mounts are different on the 5th gen lude.
5th gen AT mount: 50806-S30-000 (rubber), 50825-S30-980 (Bracket)
5th gen MT mount: 50805-S30-000 (rubber), 50825-S30-000 (Bracket)
4th gen MT mount: 50806-SS0-000 (rubber), 50825-SS0-000 (Bracket)
As u can see, if u are using the 4th gen 5 speed tranny on a 5th gen, u would need the 5th gen 5 speed mount. Or if u are doing the auto to 5 speed swap, u would also need the 5th gen 5 speed tranny mount.
I just got back from the shop and tranny code is H2J4 which I am not sure
what car its for. I will be going to the shop where I got the tranny and exchange it.
I am doing a 4th gen MT tranny swap to my 5th gen lude.
Thanks for all the replies so far.....
I guess with 5th gen mounts should be able to fit on the 4th gen tranny...
so are you doing an auto to manual swap, or are you just getting a new tranny?
if you're just replacing the manual transmission with another, it should bolt right up. i've got an h23 tranny in my 5th gen and the bolts are exactly the same.

ditto! I did the same also

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe tranny codes that begin with an H are from Accords. If it begins with an M it's from a Prelude.
For example, the USDM 4th gen tranny is M2F4, and the USDM 5th gen is M2Y4. The 4th gen with a LSD is M2B4 . . . If you search around here & on honda-tech, you should be able to find more complete listings than that.
