That wouldn't surprise me since they only produce 12000 Ludes a year.

That number sounds awfully high to me. I don't think they produced 12000 'Ludes for 2001, I'll bet it's more like 7500 since they were cutting back the production. Wasn't EBP only available for 2001?

Yes, but there are quite a few Preludes repainted EBP (or similar) too.

wow if that's true, then most of those ebp must be in Vancouver.

I got a EBP thinking i was gonna be unique, but after awhile it's everywhere... the Crystal blue (looks silverish) is more rare.

I know for a fact that Honda discontinued production of Ludes in late 2000 or early 2001. My EBP was produced sometime in Nov 2000 after I had to make a SPECIAL ORDER in Oct 2000. It took me 3 months of waiting b4 the dealer was able to deliver my ride.

In fact, I was able to track down the car since Dec of when it was shipped out of Japan, to the date it arrived at the ports in NJ.

EBP are a dime a dozen her in T.O. in the prelude color ratio. Silver takes tops with Blacks. They guys that should be gloating that they are rare are the Green guys. And those with the two tone interior.

Uhh, yeah, ok. The sales guy who sold you the Lude probably had you pay a premium since your car was a special order!! But hey, you probably took the bait since you thought you were getting something rare!! Sales guys love gullible people!

Anyway, the point is that one of my friends purchased a new EBP Lude less than two months ago and the build date on the door jamb is 08/01. So I know for a fact that they built them up until the END of the 2001 model year run.

Aside from the sales guy saying "yours is a special order because Honda has stopped production," how do YOU know for a fact that they stopped making them in late 2000 or early 2001???
If you make a statement like "I know for a fact that Honda discontinued production of Ludes in late 2000 or early 2001" back it up with some real evidence.

Gullible? yeah whatever

I didn't get the car at the lowest price possible, but IMO wasn't a premium. USD22k. I shopped around many dealers and there just wasn't one available around my area. I saw the inventory list from several dealers and all showed the same stock. Only choices were to either special order one, or they will swap w/another dealer ~150 miles away and someone will drive it back for me, NOT gonna happen!

I DID NOT say Honda "specially made" another Lude just for me after their production ended!! Yeah I could wish

I meant the dealer had to submit a special order request (this was in October 2000) because at the time nothing was available. Now u could say their sales ppl lied to me, but I doubt it if I was hearing the same thing from many diff dealers!

In ur case where ur friend was able to get a Lude made on 8/01, I guess it's possible since ur in a diff. mkt than I am. We all know how Preludes sell like hotcakes in places like Vancouver(you), Edmonton and Toronto. Maybe they had a large batch of Canadian orders to fill and decided to open up the production line for a month or so!!!

I bought my car on one of the first days in October a day after they arrived... It wasnt even on display yet. I test drove it with plastic all in the interior and withprotective stuff all over it... I wish I knew which number I had. At least we can all be special. And considering that Preludes hold their value REALLY good, then the EBP Ludes should hold it even better.

They don't put all the cars on display. Usually only one of each moddel. The rest are in storage.

What??? December 2000? How could they stop prooduction in December 2000 but slap build dates of August 2001 on the cars? That is illegal and no car manufacturer would misrepresent build dates for fear of massive lawsuits.

We all know that Preludes were only built at one plant (Sayama, JPN) for all markets and Honda announced in June '01 that the 2001 year would the the Preludes last due to poor sales. The hybrid Honda Insight outsold the Prelude for the 1st time in May '01, 1,312 to 833 (now with AT option). Despite critic raves for its crisp handling, Honda sold only 3,481 Preludes Jan-May 2001, off 6.8% from a year ago.

Now, would Honda stop producing Preludes for 7 months (resulting in the line sitting empty) and then ramp production back up for one month in August 2001 for the Canadian market?? Also, other members on this site can verify this by looking at the build date of their Preludes. There are Preludes in the US that have build dates ranging from 9/00 to as late as 8/01 for the 2001 model year since Honda was still producing them for the international market as late as 08/01 (which is the end of every car manufacturers model year cycle).
