2001 prelude transmission problem

Hello all new to the site and new Prelude owner. I got 2001 prelude last thursday and have had no issues untill this morning on my way to work the D-4 light started flashing and the car would not shift. I pulled over turned car off and back on and it drove about a mile and same thing happened. BUT when I turned it off and on again I put it into Sportshift and had no issues. But now the check engine light is on with p0780 code with i was told can be a number of different things. Does anyone have any input on where to start. I have heard/ read to drain the transmission fluid and replace. Has anyone drained the trans and it worked? Any input would be very greatfull. Thank you.

Once that light is flashing a drain and fill isn't going to help, pull the code, chances are you need a new transmission. All Honda automatics from like 97-02 had transmission problems, you might wanna take it to the dealer and see if it's still covered, it may be considering it's an 01 and they extended the warranty quite a bit.

If you can't afford a new transmission from Honda either swap to 5spd or get rid of the car, a used transmission is going to fail and people I've known who did a rebuild with an aftermarket shop only lasted a year. A reman'd transmission from Honda though will last and come with a good warranty.

that is the ecu code? the ecu is pointing to the auto trans, but you need the code from the d4 flashing to tell exactly what is wrong. 0780 is just saying the auto is broke. follow the instructions i posted above to get the exact auto code. or go with what everyone here is going to tell you, auto trannys suck, sell it.
