2001 honda prelude base stock top speed

so my friend recently got a stock 2001 base prelude (manual) like mine he has around 146k miles i have 140k miles we raced he has no mods to the best of his knowledge and he said he took his car all the way to redline in 5th gear said speedo looked like it was around 138... Mine on the other hand went around the speedo by the time i was at redline in fifth gear. As to the best of my knowledge my car is stock besides the lightweight flywheel and stage 4 clutch i have on it. i decided to do some tests good idea right? got gps out did top speed run i got 161mph i thought noway this could be right??? i have a couple friends with bikes one being a cbr 600 the other being a yamaha r6... cbr friend said he was rolling beside me at 163. yamaha r6 friend said 167... Like i say i have absolutely no mods other than the clutch and flywheel and im not turbo. ALL STOCK (to the best of my knowledge) i dont have a dyno anywhere near me so cant get the numbers. All i know is the owner before me was supposedly a big gear head and his phone isnt on. i have had the car for a year and a half.

Thats still around the 140 (215 kph =133.5948 mph to be exact) i thought stock prelude could achieve on a healthy motor i'm hitting the 160-167mph area on what i think to be a stock motor

^^^That's impossible. Our engine is gearing limited(which means the motor cannot propel the car faster) to about 155. By 160+ you'd literally be blowing the motor.

I'd also like to know how you are completely accurately gauging that 167 mph.:shrugs:

Well my math says this: 5th gearing, 2500rpm, 50mph. 5000rpm 100mph (vtec's at 110ish), 7500rpm 150, thats where you're cutting off

MODS WILL NOT CHANGE YOUR TOP SPEED!!! Well sort of they will, if you can get redline higher, and change gearing of 5th, but other than that nothing. Though Bigger wheels can bump you up a few mph's, the only thing that "performance gaining" mods (lighter flywheel etc) will do is give you more HP's, horsepower doesnt boost your speed, just makes you get there quicker.

A stock 5G Prelude will only hit about 147mph due to gearing and power.

A lighter flywheel won't even increase your horsepower. So the answer is, your GPS was wrong or you have a different transmission.

i went out did it again with some bikes and a mercedes lol the mercedes wooped me at first but he said it only went up to 145 on the electronic speedo and i passed him eventually note this is going over prbly 3 miles idk its a good distance to get speed up. he is on all stock even rims and tires. bikes got same results so did my gps (i know these are usually inaccurate especially at low signal) still in the 160 area we did something a little different with the cbr he got going to 160 and i tried to catch up to him i caught up!?!? he said he may have dipped down to 158 a little bit but was mostly at 160.

i know how horsepower everything works guys this isnt my first lude i have taken these things APART and put back together agian i just havent had the chance to take the new one apart. i have what it says to be the original tranny in the car. so unless 3 speedos are incorrect maybe idk. i drove my friends stock prelude his felt a ton weaker but it could be it just wasn't well taken care of.He drove mine and also noticed a diff. but these are just two guys opinions that mean nothing. Is there anything i can check ive taken it to i think what looks to be around 7800 rpm... i was told by the guy i bought it from that it could go to 8600 but upon looking here im scared to go over even 7500 but i finally got the nerve to do so.

That's more likely than not, actually.

There is no way a stock geared and stock H22 could get to 160mph. Literally. There is no mathematical way that could be executed without blowing the motor.

The tachometer is off a bit, most people shift when the tach says "8000" because that is the equivalent of ~7400-7500, which is our redline.

Speedometers are rarely accurate from the factory, whether its a bike, an expensive luxury car, or a 10 year old Honda. If you look in car enthusiast magazines and look at the "road tests" they conduct, they will often have a little chart that illustrates what is called the "speedometer error". They do this for a reason--because it is common in almost every massively produced car made.....

Have fun, and be careful going so fast on such an often basis!!!
