2000 prelude not starting dealer says replace ecu.....

ok so i took my car to the dealership and they say i have a bad ecu and a bad neutral safety switch.... so i purchased a new switch from honda for 150 bucks..... and an ecu i found on craigslist for 50 bucks which wasn't that bad but now to see if it works.... my question is if i replace the ecu with the ecu i bought will i have to do anything else to get my car starting i.e. will i have to reflash my ecu and my keys so it starts.... this car has been a headache for me since i got it with all these repairs i have had to do i really need some help in fixing my car but my funds are low at the moment

Can you explain a bit more what issues you are having? We can't help you if we don't know what the symptoms are. Does it crank? It can be as simple as a battery so, please elaborate.

Have you looked at the ignitor? I've had mine go bad twice on my '99. The car would crank but not start, there was no spark

Relay under dash??

Not sure if it relates to yours, but I had a friend of mine, just passed away on Halloween, he had similar problems and we replaced the relay/switch/?? under the dash. I am not sure what it is called, but we replaced it and he never had another problem, but it sure was a headache until we figured it out. Would start sometimes, but sometimes not. Hope it helps!!

Anything happen prior to this situation or did you just go outside one day and this started happening? Does the car turn over at all? Ecu's aren't really known to just go bad unless they're sitting under water or some freak electrical problem happens. Did you get the Immobilizer system and key with the new ECU? Any lights on the dash when you turn the key? Does the green key light turn on? Any blown fuses? Does Tue main relay click when turning the key?

well i was just connecting my amp to my radio but thats about it. i finally got it starting i found an electromechanic near me that found out what the problem was. apparently i must have short circuited a ground wire from the neutral safety switch to the ecu he overrided it so i can get it starting and driveable but i believe i dont have my vtec currently operating plus i cant put it in reverse from drive i would have to turn off the car in neutral put the switch back on to put it in park to start it again and then to put it in reverse its a hassle he says hes going to help me finish fixing it but im still waiting

Follow along the wiring of the neutral switch to to the computer and see if its pinched and grounded.
