2000 Power Steering Pump

Hey all!

This is my first post, so be gentle.
I crashed my 2000 base type in Feb. The mechanic I went to turned out to be a crackhead, and installed a new p/s pump without putting the right fluid in it. I drove probably 30 miles that day before the noise coming from under the hood was way too loud.

Since then, I have flushed it, but the noise is getting worse and worse and the steering wheel is stiff. I guess it's blown. A guy at the place I get my oil changed told me it was going to cost $600 to get it fixed at his shop. I'm a college student, so this is nuts.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good website to buy a new one? I'm pretty sure I can figure out how to get it in. I just don't want to order a new pump for $200+ and end up with a faulty part. I've looked at a few, but they all seem confusing and sketchy. I'm not good with all the car jargon.. :/

Hopefully your steering rack is still ok... Honda fluid is recommended if i'm not mistaken.

Sounds like the pump may be shot

all worth a shot - or just remove the pump and loop your lines. You could even try a part-out thread on the many prelude forums out there...

If all it is is your power steering pump, you will be fine. If the steering rack is somehow mest up, that blows.

Honestly just get one from a junkyard and save you're money.

Expensive repairs always seem to plague you when you're in the most inopportune fiscal situation. I suppose it's Murphy's Law at play

I'd check out hondapartsnow.com for a cheap OEM pump replacement. Since they're factory parts, concerns about the reliability of the part should be alleviated:

I hope that you're able to replace everything without breaking the bank

You need to check the rack before you do anything, is it even holding fluid at this point? Would be best to remove the belt and drive without PS until it is fixed or you'll be buying a belt too.
