1st gear not engaging properly

Wats up guys,

I just bought a 98 Prelude manual vtir. While driving today, i noticed that sometimes (not always) 1st gear doesn't engage properly. Let me describe it. So from neutral position, i would push the shifter left and up. But while im pushing up it gets stuck in between. If i attempt to move the car in this stuck position, i hear grinding noises and the shifter acutally shakes without by hand on it. What do u think is the problem? How much will it cost to fix?

P.S.: I know for a fact that the car is leaking engine oil from cam seals, radiator needs replacing and (most importantly that could relate to my problem) is leaking transmission oil from right hand drive shaft

Please help me as this is worrying

By the way guys, i forgot to mention that im fairly new to manual transmission driving. I've only had a couple lessons driving stick. So it could possibly be something that i am doing wrong and not the car itself. Please provide advice and tips

How often does it not engage? For example: Does not engage 1 out of 10 times.

Well so far i've only experienced it twice. So id say its not that common at all. Infact in my more recent drives, i haven't had much problem. i've only had the car a couple of days and its a new clutch. Maybe its just my inexperience on manual. Ill keep you guys posted if i get the problem again.

The car is going to the mechanics to get a major service and repair. Will change transmission oil as well. Hopefully will be smoother. Btw, im looking to get some GM Synchromesh. But i seriously cant find it anywhere. i live in Melbourne, Australia. Anybody have any luck finding it in Melbourne?
