Hey I just bought a 1998 prelude base and it has a OEM lip kit on it that the guy I bought it from said was rare and it also has a carbon fiber interior look. I was just wondering if these options are pretty rare or not?
well...rare as in they are becoming harder and harder to get -Yes.
rare are as in the lip kits didn't really come on the preludes- it was an option- yes
the carbon fiber (look) trim can still be found in a few websites. But the OEM lip kit is becoming a little harder to find, unless you buy it used or fiber glass copy
If you're in the states, then it's just an OEM lip kit.
The UKDM models received the Motegi lip kit. And sorry to burst your bubble, but the circular fog lights are not really that rare, although I do prefer the look of them over the JDM style. I would say your Prelude is rare in the sense that it has almost every option. Have you checked the trunk for the optional trunk mat?
I'll throw some pics up later but the previous owner I bought it from told me the rear struts are bad and that the coilovers that were put on might be bad. Im getting new struts put in today but how can I know if the coilovers are bad and need replacing and should I just get lowering springs instead?

what do you mean the coil overs might be bad? like the springs or just the shocks or both? i've put my tein springs through HELL for about 10,000 miles and they feel brand new. i don't imagine they'd lose their elastic properties unless you overextended them somehow -- bottoming out doesn't seem to do much to them from what i've seen. long as you're within the elastic range, you won't really ever wear them out.
as for lowering springs, if you didn't get valve-stiffened shocks, don't bother. stock shocks on lowering springs are very pointless unless you don't mind bouncing all over the place -- the springs don't let the shocks travel enough to do their damping so you just bounce like crazy. invest in some kyb agx shocks or koni yellows and then think about getting stiff lowering springs
I just need a little help on understanding the whole suspension thing on my car lol so do the coilovers just go over the struts and the shocks and all they do is lower the car while the shocks and struts help with the suspension? Also I tried putting in new struts today but I guess they wont fit because the coilovers or whatever are different than any stock setup so the struts I bought wont fit in lol

a real coil over is a strut, has a shock and a little spring all attached as one piece with a plate at the top that holds it all together and they're designed to work with specifically with one another. people usually call coil overs just a spring (coil) that goes around the shock.
a strut is the whole package, the plate that holds the spring and shock together and the shock/spring. kinda redundant terminology so just be specific in what you're talking about.
the springs are what change the ride height.
what do you mean they won't fit? are they adjustable with sleeves or a different diameter or what?

Yes : Both of those body mods are for owners who desire a more flamboyant car which is probably why they were not part of the stock lude and are not normally seen on a typical lude do to the fact that it only appeals to a certain small segment of Honda owners and the public in general.
Wait so the coilovers are the strut and yes they do have sleeves that are adjustable, my car is down really low right now. The last owner said the car needs to coilovers or new struts and shocks and the car was really bumpy in the back so I new it had to be the struts but the ones I bought wont fit because they wont fit into the coilovers or something

I really feel for you man. Buying a modded car can be a real enema which is why I recommend against it. Why don't you contact the guy and see if he still has the stock parts so you can put it back to its OEM state and then things will be easy for you and you just might solve some other potential problems related to tire wear, road impact damage ,and depending on the state you live in, possible legal issues.

well i dunno why they wouldn't fit if they're made for your car..usually those sleeved ones just slip right on with a couple rubber washes that wedge between the shock and sleeve to keep it snug. universal sleeves basically.
i dunno what to tell you, i've only had OEM, 96 lude adjustable sleeve/spring set, ebay springs and kyb gr-2 shocks, and my current tein s-tech springs / kyb agx shocks set.
if you could get some pictures i could help, though as of right now, i don't see why sleeves won't fit on any shock made for your lude.
Okay well I have my car at my friends shop and he's trying to fix it, he noticed that the coiover assembly wasnt even connected right or something and it was no wonder why my car was bouncing and really rough so hopefully that will fix it but my car does have a full coilover set on all fours which replaced the stock strut and shock. I'll update when I get my car back and drive it around to see if its fixed. Thanks for the help guys.
