191,000 mile G5 synopsis

I have a 98 base 5spd. and I am the original owner..

Here's my car's history:

30,000 miles: installed Konis and Neuspeed sports
45,000 miles: Yoko A520s
52,000 miles: Tensioner is rattling; belt, pump, etc. replaced
79,000 miles: Pirelli PZeros (later to discover these were the best tires)
101,000miles: Replaced both rear wheel bearings, although only one failed.
113,000 miles: A520s again
140,000 miles: New ignition switch ( Is Honda gonna reimburse me?)
142,000 miles: RE730s (Only came into their own at half-tread)
152,000 miles: New timing belt w/ updated tensioner
178,000 miles: Original clutch replaced
179,000 miles: A520s again
181,000 miles: Original front brakes replaces ( they still had an eighth of an inch left on them)
190,000 miles: Replaced original battery

Still runs like a top. NEVER any squeaks or rattles...

Oh, I ran the car on Mobil 1 for 170,000 miles but got tired of the oil burning-CEL came on for excessive consumption at 140,000. I'm now on Castrol GTX and the light hasn't come back on.

All fluids, filters and tune-ups performed/replaced twice as often as necessary.

The check engine light for oil came on?! You really need to check your oil levels much more often. Since the only time that light will come on is when the oil level is SO low that the oil pump has nothing to pump.

Wow...I'm really glad to hear our cars have that kind of longevity Did you take your car to the dealer for all the maintenance work, or was it self-done?

Got a question for you though - Castrol GTX is a non-synthetic oil, yet you were using Mobil 1 before? I thought that once you went synth, you couldn't switch back.

And last thing...coming to the meet?

Nah, old wives tale....the manufacturers mix the two, so why can't we?!

Sh!T shik, sorry about the meet--going to the Vineyard--need my yearly fix!

SADWAP--I drive 50K per year easy. For business. Tampa. Chicago. L.A. Sales, ya know...Plus one circumnavigation of the U.S. in 2001--11,000 miles.

yeah, i don't think my car will be lasting that long. long-lived engines and boost aren't very complementary of each other are they?

Yeah, I don't misinform people. The only time that oil light should come on is when the oil pressure is so low that it essentially gets no signal from the oil pressure sensor. That's the only way that you can get that light to come on. You must of been running close to 3 quarts low at that point at least. Please don't try to run over things that you are unsure how works yourself.

I said the check engine light came on signifying excessive oil consumption!

But yea i tried castrol Gtx as well (got it at the gas station cuz it was super cheap) and that oil didnt seem to burn at all worked pretty good too. But im back using Mobil 1 syn..
