18" Wheel / Tire Trouble...Help!!!...

Just had a set of 4 Konig 18" , 5 - 114.3 bolt pattern, 40 offset wheels wrapped in Hankook 18" 245/40/18's. I have the factory suspension & the rear tires rub when I hit even small bumps. Have any of you fellow gen 5 owners had the same problem? How do you fix it? Thanks!

by the sounds of things your wheels are too wide for a start.

best setup for 18's is 18x7.5 with a +48 offset. and tires no wider then 225, by the looks of things your wheels are at least 18x8.

now id wait for someone to second what im about to say as im still learning about everything myself, but id guess to fix it you'd need to buy some spacers to push your wheels further out so they don't rub, by the sounds of things you wouldn't need to push them out too far.

but with spacers on it + the low offset you already have your wheels will stick out the side of your car, and you couldn't lower your car with those wheels on.

Fixxed

you're right JJusion...we swapped out the 245's for 225's & that seems to work...I need to change my car pic...It now has factory susp'...I got this Exact wheel Here #ZR8851440B, 2nd one from the bottom w/ a 5-114.3 bp & a 40 offset;

...Konig makes one w/ a 48 offset should I do an Exchange ?

no, effectively you shouldn't be able to fit on that wheel because it is 8" wide, too wide for the wheel well, but because your offset is lower then the recommended +48 (the lower the offset the further out your wheel will sit from the wheel well) it fits fine, so basically if you have no rubbing problems now, leave it. but if you ever look to lower your car dont lower it by much (ie 20-30mm max at a guess)

Smooth Ride , Lowered w/ LP Tires?

thanks again bro...i'm undecided on lowering the car again, the ride i had b4 was awful & raised, it rides like a dream but if I do decide to go low it will probably be best to go ahead & do the wheel exchange or optimumly have a winter set & a rest of yr set...$ & garage space permitting ...

is it possible to have a lowered g5 prelude, w/ low profile tires & a smooth ride? no BANG BANG every time you hit a bump in the road...

tried sending that new photo from my phone to my yahoo email but yahoo sent back some error oh well...

cant tell you, but in theory so long as the car isnt slammed it should be ok, and yes low profile tires will allow you to lower it further but then you have increased risk of damaging your wheels.

I have worked in the retail tire business for over 10 years @ (Sears Auto, Western Auto, Tire America (NTB), Grayboy MotorSports, and Tires Plus (Bridgestone/Firestone), and below is the recommended wheel width/offset for 4th and 5th gens. With the tire size you are running you probably have an 8" wide wheel. With an 8" wheel, it really isn't recommended (especially with a +40 offset and your tire size). Personally, I wouldn't run ANYTHING wider then a P225, REGARDLESS of rim diameter.

OFFSET:
6.5" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen
Less than +38mm ::: You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well.
+38mm to +55mm ::: You shouldn't have any problems. Recommended Offsets for 6.5" Wide Wheels.
Larger than +55mm ::: You take the chance of rubbing the inside lining of the wheel well.

7" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen

Less than +38mm ::: Not Recommended
+38mm to +41mm ::: Not Recommended if you are, or plan to be, lowered. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well.
+42mm to +44mm ::: This is a grey area if you are lowered, results vary depending on tire and/or drop. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well.
+45mm to +50mm ::: You shouldn't have any problems. Recommended Offsets for 7" Wide Wheels.
Larger than +51mm ::: Not Recommended. You take the chance of rubbing the inside lining of the wheel well.

7.5" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen

Less than +40mm ::: Not Recommended
+40mm to +43mm ::: Not Recommended if you are, or plan to be, lowered. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well. Wouldn't recommend using any tire with an overall diameter larger than stock and/or with a tire width larger than 215.
+44mm to +47mm ::: This is a grey area if you are lowered, results vary depending on tire and/or drop. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well. Wouldn't recommend using a tire with an overall diameter more than slightly larger than stock, you chances of rubbing increase.
+48mm to +52mm ::: You shouldn't have any problems. Recommended Offsets for 7.5" Wide Wheels.
Larger than +53mm ::: Not Recommended. You take the chance of rubbing the inside lining of the wheel well.

8" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen

Not recommended without enlarging or rolling outside lip of wheel wells. Some people have had success with running offsets larger than +48mm, but you are taking an expensive risk.
