1.7" drop, camber kit needed?

Just wondering if I have to shell out extra money for a camber kit. I'm dropping my 98 SH with Neuspeed sports (1.7" front and 1.5" rear). Is it possible to get the car properly aligned afterwards? I just want to make sure I won't ruin my new tires after I drop the car next week.

1.7 inch drop.. definitely get a camber kit and make sure it's for the SH model. My car was dropped 1.5 and the tires would last about 15-20k with rotation. This was with no camber kit.

definetly. If u drop the car, your going to increase uneven tire wear no matter wut, its just a matter of how bad and how fast. In order to prevent it i suggest engalls camber kits, you can find em the cheapest at www.overboost.com

I'd wait until after you installed the parts before purchasing one. Install everything, let it settle in for 100 miles or so, then go in for an alignment. They'll get it dailed in as close as they can. At that point you'll know more. You'll know if you need one at all, and if you do need one, you'll know the amount of adjustment you need. No sense in buying a kit that allows +2 degrees of adjustment if you're a half degree out.

+1

Also keep in mind that toe is a bigger contributor to tire wear than camber. Get the toe zeroed out. You can get by with about 1.25 degrees negative camber with very little additional tire wear. On top of that, your car will handle better with a little negative camber.

Thanks for the advice guys, I decided to go ahead and lower it and decide afterwards what the next step is.

Me and buddy knocked out the rears today in about 2 hours and that included a lot of wasted time and a few struggles with rusty cotter pins that broke before we got them out. Tomorrow we'll finish up the job with the front end. I have a little touching up to do on my wheels before I take pics (running stock wheels at the moment), but the car already looks 100x better!

my car is dropped on neuspeed sports which is 1.5...however my koni yellows have the perches dropped so the overall drop is nearly 2 inches...

i dont have a camber kit and as long as you rotate your tires front to back every other oil change you'll be ok in my opinion

and also, if you get a camber you only get a front kit. the rears dont have enough weight on them to wear the tires down. that much....which is why you can get away with rotating the tires

also remember, camber = handling

I thought Neuspeed sports were 1.7" front and 1.5" rear? I wanted to raise the front and the rear with the perches but now that I see how the rear looks at the factory perch setting I almost want to go a little lower lol.

I'm expecting 1 1/2 hours to do the front taking my time. Suspension is a piece of cake I don't know why people pay to have it done.

I feel your pain. I hate them but you could always take it to a shop and have them do it. I'm guessing they'll charge 50-75 bucks for all 4? Anyways.. damn it!
