National Prelude Meet 2008 Pics and Summary...

Summary...

Thursday
-we all made our way to the hotel. Ohpoc was hours late as usual :-P
-I managed to take about 5 people way off course and added a good 1.5 hours to the trip.
-on the way there, Kevin (has turbo DSM) blew a tire.
-After checking in we all headed to Olive Garden. Good times, although the waitresses served us an audience. weird.

Friday
-got up went to the track.
-everyone prepped while we swapped my rear wheels for Kevin's so he could track
-we made the mistake of jacking my car up in the grass, the jack sank and collapsed, no damage thankfully
-everyone had fun on the track, no big issues
-left the track, set up camp, made wal mart stop to "rent" some stuff. Washed cars to prep for the show

Saturday

-everyone set up their cars
-had drivers meeting for the Tuner Challenge event.
-Tuner Challenge was better organized this year. But they failed to make a spot for us in the show (we made our own). They also failed to judge 95 percent of our cars (fvckers).
-Tuner challenge was great. Ugene lost it and went through the grass.
-Kevin blew past the stop box when his DSM blew a break line.
-I managed to "drift" swinging the rear end out, but counter steered out.
-Kristen made smoke again as her lack of abs locked up the wheels in the stop box
-Later the race began, was lots of fun but began to downpoor. They changed to rain tires, but still made for lots of accidents.
-some of us made dinner back at the campsite, but took cover under the easy up tent we had
-the storm also caused a easy up tent by the show to go flying, even with 6 people trying to stop it, it managed to scratch the hell out of Chris's car (redludesh)
-continued to eat, drank by the fire later, etc

Sunday
-more racing at Mid Ohio
-more rain
-golf cart fun down hills
-Kristen, Gina, Wendy got to meet Patrick Dempsey
-Kyle got wheel from behind track when it fell of TSX that was racing

A recap from some of our participants

By madcatz - 6/22/2008 7:45 PM
Where are the updates for those of us who didnt get to make it?
By lude4lifeh22 - 6/22/2008 10:17 PM
Most of us just got back earlier tonight. Overall sweet weekend, will have pics at some point soon.

Some "highlights"

1. Dont EVER let me lead in a caravan (made 2.5 hour drive a 4 hr drive, etc)

2. Kevaan, drives the shiat out of his civic on the track.

3. Ohpoc was late as usual on Thursday.

4. Mid Ohio once again sux at organization, and didnt end up judging Chris or my car, and several others.

4. It rained like f-ing crazy, causing many accidents on the track at Mid Ohio, and Chris's car got scratched to hell by flying tent.

5. Got to see Patrick Demsey or whatever his name is.

6. Had over 15 5th gen Preludes there.

7. DSMs suck. PERIOD, just ask Kevvy Wevvy.

By 1SickMP5 - 6/22/2008 10:34 PM
Update:

1.) I love rain racing.

2.) The track day was a blast even though I have a Protege!

3.) The Nonda now has something wrong with the shifter or tranny and its LEAKING OIL [Angry]

4.) Other than that is was a ****ing sweet weekend.
By Grey bush - 6/23/2008 12:14 AM
Sorry Travis your silver 5th gen didn't win any show awards. Simon did run it into a trash can. [Tongue]

I am still learning how to drive a mid-engine, rear wheel drive sports car.
By madcatz - 6/23/2008 12:35 AM
le sigh, if it got judged I woulda gotten me a trophy!
By aquila - 6/23/2008 4:01 AM
A few more highlights:

-We got to troubleshoot the power steering on Kristen's third gen., and had a customer at the hotel paranoid that were were going to steal his car because we kept hanging out in the parking lot. Riiiight.

-Some drunken guy wandered around the Mid-Ohio campgrounds setting off fireworks (next to people's cars, no less) and telling us "Don't rat me out!" Wake up, guy--you're not in a frat. We weren't cheering. And fireworks are all but worthless when you fire them during the daylight.

-Eugene hammered his way through the last corner of the Turd Ferguson speed/handling competition. He ended up passing the checkered flag while sideways in the grass, then got back on the pavement like nothing was ever wrong.

-During the horrid rain and wind, about a dozen of us crowded under the mesh tent/gazebo to hold it down and keep the food dry. Oh, and Kevin broke one of the legs while trying to lock it down...

-Also, after the storm was over, a number of us went to the esses to watch the Daytona Prototypes and Porches and such race in the rain. One of the cars (66--yeah!) came in and switched to slicks while the track was still wet, and drove like a hero on a charge to make up lost time. He didn't have enough time to make it up to the podium, but was turning laps three seconds faster than the leader at one point.

-Kristen and some stranger across the campground spent one night engaged in a round of "dueling air-horns."

Steve broke something on his Prelude, so he made a trip home from Nelson Ledges and came back with the C6 Corvette Z06. He walked on just about everything while 'taking it easy.'

Burt had a nice coat of dirt on his car after what he affectionately refers to as his "Super Special Rally Stage" at Nelson.

-Oh yes, and my idiotic excursion confirms that there are zero gas stations for miles upon miles if you turn left out of Nelson Ledges. My leadership skills leave something to be desired. Or I just took a page from Simon's book.
By lude4lifeh22 - 6/23/2008 8:35 AM

Ya, Chris and I are kind of pissed most of us didnt get judged, especially since 3 5th gens took the trophies last year.

Oh, Kyle retrieved a wheel that came off one of the TSX racing on Sunday!!
By kpro - 6/23/2008 10:47 AM
Patrick Dempsey is HOT and a nice guy [BigGrin]
By krc91987 - 6/23/2008 11:14 AM
Actually Kyle and me retrieved the TSX wheel from the gully, and its f'n sweet, probably the best souvenir ever, I had a freakin blast all weekend I can't wait to do it again, I just wish it wasn't so far away, I mean next weekend is like 6 days, how can I be expected to wait that long I've got A.D.D. for god sakes.
By Kicker774 - 6/23/2008 12:51 PM

A TSX wheel flew off the track and into the spectator area??

I left that mangled bracket at the campground somewhere but I got a chunk of sheet metal from a KONI car I'll probably hang in my garage. Had to climb down from the starter stand and run across a "hot track" (Meaning cars on track) grab it from the other side of the road and run back.

Who has my sleeping bag? Everyone packed up and took off before I had the chance to get back down there after the last BMW race. I should had grabbed it that morning but I was hoping for a strong sun to heat up that tent and dry it out some. It was a little damp from the rain.

And yes from now on I should be the default navigator around Mid-Ohio / Lexington / Ontario / Mansfield.
No more of this making 4 rights to make a left business.
By rice girl - 6/23/2008 1:14 PM
Shane Lewis (driver of Marty's race car) explained to Gina that he drinks beer with Patrick Dempsey all of the time at the races.

Bill Lester (driver of Marty's race car) spun it a few times in the esses, went the wrong way on the track, stalled and was almost squashed by a rolling herd of racing hornets.

Gina's boob touched Patrick Dempsey.

Gina, Sam and Kristen looked nervous as hell in the Patrick Dempsey photo.

I don't care about Patrick Dempsey.

Ryan drove Kristen's car around Nelson Ledges with Kristen's skirt hanging out the passenger door.

Air horns can be used as a request for pick up from the showers at the camp site.

I get *****y when ****'s a mess.

I have about 3 bazillion photos to finish sorting through...

Kevin gave new meaning to run flat tires.

The TL is great for avoiding cops pulling over modified cars.

Simon doesn't know how to look ahead to see if there are cops present... and then gets pulled over and gets out of it.

Corey and Sam won the furthest distance traveled award.... from Minnesota!

Some guy at Midohio learned how not to secure a easy up and jacked Chris' car all up.

Did the owner of the tent know about it, or does Chris just have a new tent now?
By rice girl - 6/23/2008 2:34 PM
Chris got his info.
By kpro - 6/23/2008 4:30 PM

Remind not to park down there again.
Flying tents, punk kids shooting off fireworks right next to your car, drunk guys scavenging for anything that will burn.

kpro (6/23/2008)i have an extra sleeping bag and someones shower stuff.

Probably mine. I'll swing by and pick it up sometime.
If there's a towel with it it's probably all musty and dank smelling so you can just toss it.
By redludesh - 6/24/2008 11:42 AM
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

Owner of the flying canopy of death's insurance just called and basically told me to STFU they won't cover squat and to call my insurance, which i just did, so i'll have to hope my insurance company gives em hell or else my lude gonna be cut the **** up for a loooooong while or until $500 falls out of the sky. Yea gonna cost me $500 to park my car at a show, where it wasn't even judged. Thats awesomeness. BTW who all was there as witnesses??? I gave them Stewart and Derek, but i cant remember who else, i know there was like 6-7 people who either saw or helped fight off the canopy of death and wrestle it into the ground. If you could lemme know who, that'd be awesome.
By Jeager - 6/24/2008 12:25 PM
honestly dude If his tent was properly staked to the ground and the wind still blew it out then I dont see insurance covering it =( It sucks man...good luck with it...

For once my ass didnt do anything dumb this year lol!

TSX wheel...

Sitting at the S's a TSX comes flying down the back straight when one of its wheels fell off...yes fell the **** off...and goes rolling faster then the TSX down the straight. It rolled up onto the gaurd rail before the first turn the shot into the woods over the fence. So me and kevin looked at each other like "we should go find that". So we ran over across the honda bridge and down into the woods. Took a minute of searching but I spotted the wheel. We took the wheel and rolled it back to my CRV. All the while people looking at laughing asking us if that was the TSX wheel. The End
By redludesh - 6/24/2008 1:05 PM
My main thing would be, storm rolling in, wind blowing like crazy, expensive cars everywhere, you take down your canopy. We werent there it woulda moved on to the turbo 911 behind my car, someone with an attorney, gaurantee his insurance would be paying for that based on that argument, but im poor so it'll be out of my pocket or not at all and stayed ****ed.
By Kicker774 - 6/24/2008 1:36 PM
The Souvenior wheel!!!
[/quote]

Did the wheel studs sheer off? Wow.

Did anyone see a Rolex car w/o it's door during the race?
There was a call for that froma corner worker but we never saw anything. He swears he was looking straight a a driver though. I want to say it was an RX-8 but I don't remember specifically.
By AMorgan - 6/24/2008 4:04 PM
Chris, I was there. I helped Stuart stop the tent of death. It was properly staked as far as I can tell (considering 3 of the stakes were still in the feet) and just got lifted by a gust of wind. It rotated 270 degrees before it got to us. I dunno how much more I can provide/what they need, but if you need someone to recount the story, I was there and involved in thwarting the tent.

Then its an act of god claim or whatever. Should be covered under home owners, etc. I think the only thing that makes it difficult is that it was out at Mid Ohio on track grounds. But Insurance is there for a reason, to cover damages and costs, whether they be from things falling on cars or people driving into them. The problem is, insurance companies have monompoly on indvidual cases, therefore, they can deny to pay all they want. Ultimately, it will be a fight between the two insurances and I think Chris is going to be out on this one unfortunately.

I hate insurance companies.

I know with my insurance policy that would be closest to an act of god. It's kinda like hitting a deer. My policy covers those 100% with no deductable.

However, I hate insurance companies too... a 97 prelude costs more to insure than an 05 corolla XRS (civic Si sedan competetor). Hell, my 92 prelude is $3/mo more to insure than said 97 prelude?!?! It's random at best and a great money maker for the companies.

Here's my trackday video, sadly i had very little footage to work with. I'd really like a lot more out of car footage as it was really cool, there was just very little of it. i threw in some incar footage to make the video longer than 37 seconds, but im certainly sick of in-car footage as i have like 5 hours of it lol.

Awesome pictures. Wish I lived closer to that event. I would have loved to go to something like this. Never been to anything nearly as cool.
