The lower the rpm the better the fuel economy, like around 3 grand.

I usually shift at 7500 when I'm racing.

Fuel Economy the lowest possible...? Below 3,000 at least..

For Performance? We can't tell you that.. Depends on your engine and where you stop making power at... One of the big points of a Dyno...

Skipping gears and shifting low, like at 2.5k, got me 24 - 26mpg mixed city/hwy with a JDM H22, a bit higher than with the H23, probably due to the slightly lower RPMs while cruising in 5th. Of course, that's no fun.

I get 22 mpg city, and about 26-29 highway with my H23.

I shift low, around 2-2.5k RPMs and spend most of my time in fifth, when I can.

Keeps my fuel efficiency pretty good...

Here's my numbers since I bought the car...
Gallons---Odometer---Trip 1-----MPG
10.995---172,278-----346.9
13.096---172,636-----358.0-----27.337
1.092 ----(For gas can)
12.881---173,008-----372.0-----28.880
12.668---173,336-----328.4-----25.924
12.188---173,674-----337.6-----27.699
12.740---174,034-----360.5-----28.297
13.019---174,367-----332.9-----25.570
12.025---174,620-----253.0-----21.040
13.361---174,964-----343.8-----25.732
12.920---175,316-----351.9-----27.237
13.302---175,710-----394.0-----29.620
13.852---176,087-----377.0-----27.216
13.717---176,443-----356.0-----25.953
13.565---176,741-----297.3-----21.917
13.686---177,106-----365.5-----26.706
13.271---177,466-----359.8-----27.112
12.980---177,780-----313.5-----24.153
13.183---178,132-----352.1-----26.709

I use Excel a lot, to keep track of a bunch of things, hopefully that stays organized well... anyways, it's not a bad thing to keep track of.

I tend to drive on highways upwards of 70, up to 90 MPH.

City, I live on the southern most end of Miami, traffic is anywhere between stop and go and 50 MPH.

So... yeah, just shift low, and don't be any rush, and you can get pretty damn good mileage. And look at the odometer numbers, this is by no means a young car. Also... I use premium only in her, usually Shell or BP. But yeah, most likely more info than you wanted... but I'd encourage you to keep track, it'll help you tailor your habits.

Heh heh, another Miami resident.

I usually fill up at the BP or Shell on US 1 between 88th (Kendal Drive) and Standford Drive.

Blah, not looking forward to the drop in MPG when I swap to VTEC. Really, you have worse with the VTEC than the H23?

I keep track of date, and brand of purchase, though not the location of the station... as well as price per gallon, and price to fill the tank.

Anyways... where do the Prelude owners gather down here?

I shift around 2.5k-3k daily and on a run I usually push it to about 7.2k, sometimes 7.5k, yeah you def should have pulled that b18 tho.

With my old H23 (Stock with stock M2S4) I could get 27 - 32 Highway and normally 22 - 26 City.
Used to drive to Tucson a lot, just about every weekend. Supposed to be like a two hour trip that I made in like an hour and fifteen.. I probably averaged 85 MPH, so varying 75 - 90ish MPH, and still got very good gas mileage..

And I also shifted as close as I could to 2,000 RPMs also.. Jumped to 5th ASAP. lol

3,000 - 3,500 RPM is way to high, depending on the engine/trans...

Eh, your drop will depend on the Transmission you use and your driving habits.. I had a swap done last summer and I've tried to get back in my old driving habits, but it's not easy.. :S The new heart has given my Prelude a lot more spunk. :P hehe

But I had a built Trans swapped in also.. And after a few times of checking the MPG, I've given up... I probably average 19 - 22 now.. But this is with my spirited driving.. I could probably get more if I REALLY tried..
But Highway I won't be able too.. I'm hitting 4,500 RPMs @ 75 MPH.. In VTEC by 85 MPH.. lol :P

If you want to go fast

-Launch at high revs, ride out the clutch to keep grip
-Shift at 8K on the tachometer

One small problem with this approach...

Riding clutch = burnt clutch = replacing clutch more frequently = pretty blue spots on clutch...

BAD!

Don't kills your clutch for the sake of going fast a few times... learn to launch off the threshold without burning your clutch...

I used this method of launching all the time at the drag strip. My first clutch lasted slightly under 100,000 miles.
