RPM-

im just wondering at what RPM do you guys shift at when your racing someone?
i usually shift 1-2 at 8 K so im still in vtec then i shift at 7.6-7.8k, ive never been to the track but if you have list your times too. maybe we can see what the fastest rmp to shift at is ;\

that sound good... The goal is to stay in VTEC, but our engines quit making power above 7500...

i shift right at the redline, unless i feel its not going to help, if we shift at the redline, VTEC will remain engaged

no, by redline, we mean where the red line starts (7500)

8000 is fuel cutoff that different.

Not sure if any of you have been to a dyno, but the stock tach reads anywhere from 300-500 rpm high, fuel cutoff is actually right at 7400 rpm actual revs of the motor, just your tach will indicate up to 8 grand on most 5g's I have seen. At any rate, the point is fuel cutoff is the redline, so go ahead and wind it up there all the way. Unless you have a modified ECU, you can not rev the motor to 8k actual revs.

shifting to 8 is ok, because you have to make up for the time which your shifting, and pushing the clutch down, cause as your doing all of this, your rpms are dropping... so to compensate shift later, around 8 so when your in 2nd gear, your rpms will be higher..

Point is to stay in peak power band, not vtec.
but then again, hondas got power only in vtec, so I guess its all about staying in vtec range for us.

I bring it all the way up to cut-off in 1-2shift, then I tend to shift less higher between 2-3/3-4/, because you don't lose much RPMs anyways.

My Field VTEC controller has an RPM readout and beeps at a programmed shift point. Fuel cut is 7,600 rpms and the real redline is 7,400 so the tach is off by nearly 400 rpms. I set it at 7,400 so when I hear it and shift it puts me almost at fuel cut in first, about 7,500 in second, and redline in 3rd! It's important to keep the revs up even if power is dropping off because it sets you up for the next gear.
