Ricer fly by?

I was at stopped a light a few nights ago, waiting to make a left turn. An RX-7 pulls up on my left, passenger checking out my car. The driver starts revving the engine and it was either pegging the rev-limiter or he had a launch controller on there. Either way, that damn thing was blowing black, fuel laden smoke out of the exhaust.

Light turns green, he launches and gets all the way in the rightmost lane of a 3 lane road, going 40 or so (speed limit 45). A modded Scion tC came out from behind somewhere and got in the leftmost lane, also going the same speed. I start nearing them and start accelerating down the middle lane to get ahead of both of the morons. As I am almost dead even with both of them - going about 50 or so - they just floored it, took off, and both made a U-turn up ahead

Was I in a race?

You must have got lapped, that's why they made the U turn, so you could catch up.

My broken wings still strong enough to cross the ocean with.
My broken wings how far should I go drifting in the wind.
