READ! SS lude vs stock auto saturn and 5 spd lude - Honda Prelude Forum

well ppl, here is the setup: me - ss 01 lude with i/e/p
my friend 93preludeS had his lude in the shop and got a loaner car. a new 4dr, auto, 2.2litre saturn. Now being the crazy fella he is, he does his ghetto intake mod to the saturn (air filter and no reso.) and removes some weight reduction.
The 3rd guy is a 98 5spd lude with my exact setup i/e/p,

1sr race: from 25mph punch in 1st gr with saturn. (note that the 25mph punch i feel is my strongest starting point becuase i can hit vtec instantly and gain power).

I thought i would rape that saturn in 1st but nooooo....3 horns and BAM! were even in 1st, i telling you all, this was the longest time in 1st i ever felt i stayed in...i was dismayed at the lude.
Then 2nd gr, and i pulled a car on him and by 3rd it was over by about 3+ cars at 85mph.

2nd race: with saturn from 25mph.

3rd race: with 5spd lude from 25mph in 1st
this race was interesting because it would almost PROVE the outcome of ss vs 5 spd ludes with the same mods.
so here it is guys!

1st gr from 25mph...dead even, we both shifted to second the same time at 8k, and I stayed in vtec (5.2k rpm), so did he. i pulled like 1/4 a car when we shifted to 2nd and gained 1/2 a car by the end of my 2nd. he shifted to 3rd while i was at 7k in second( i guess 5spd has shorter gearing). Then bam!, i went into 3rd in vtec, but right away he started pulling like crazy.....about 1.5 to 2 cars by 90mph when i stopped....i was gaining on him by this time. he wasnt pulling as fast when i reached around 6k in 3rd. I think i might have shifted too high in 2nd (8K)....i wonder if i would have minimized the gap if i shifted sooner....hmm

4th race: saturn from stop.

lets say i got my ass handed to me from the get go...2 cars ahead and he only stopped pulling when i hit 2nd gr. by then he was like 3 cars.....insane i say...just crazy

The outcome: ss ludes....not bad from a roll, kinda able to keep up with 5spd...FROM A 25mph PUNCH....note that ss ludes would get raped from a dead stop against any car.
and the saturn....dont mess with it from a stop, and dont take it easy from a roll....and beware of v6 saturns....

....

please leave comments...suggestions anything

first of all, its not a fair comparison, what kind of race starts from rolling?....? he is already giving you advantage over this race, and you are taking about winning this guy? ? a real win can only come from a real race, and real racer races from 0 mph, and not 25.

put it in this way, its like me racing a WRX or a Type-R from 135 mph on...............................

well its fair becuase "both" of us punched it from a 25mph roll...its not like he gave a head start or anything...why would gunning it from 25mph be unfair?

if you beat a wrx or a type R from 135mph....props to you...

i never said i beat the 5spd....

if that's fair, why don't you guys start from 0 mph? isn't it more convincing that way?

WRX and type-R are merely my examples to show you why rolling races are jokes.

WRX and type-r top out at 135 mph, and we top out at 150 mph, if the race starts from 135 mph, guess who would win, but who has a faster car?

i only wanted to roll form 25mph merely because i would get raped from a dead stop.
we all know it is a fact that most auto ludes have pretty useless torque down low. i wanted to test the ability of the lude minus that weak point....

if all races were from a stop...i may as well sell my lude and get a saturn.

j_s2000 Why you gotta hate on the guy for having an SS? They're having some friendly races, the least the 5spd could do was go from a roll...races are fun, but I prefer CLOSE races rather than blowouts...

he just said the 5 speed would kill a ss of the line. What more do you want him to do. Swap in a 5 speed to be like you? I have a ss and I don`t plan on trying to be like anyone so are you going to treat me the same way? See I wanted a 5 spped but when I bought my car in 2001 new I couldn`t find one that was a 5 speed. Dude you got to chill. Sorry everyone isn`t like you.

We are all here for the same reason. We have Preludes.

i dont really think j-s2k was hating on the ss...he was saying that the race was unfair???

what i cant understand was how the race was unfair?? we both punched it from 25mph.

i mentioned that 5spd would kill me from a stop, so why waste fuel on that when the outcome is obvious. So why not try out a race where the weakness of the SS is eliminated and the race would be a whole lot more interesting.

the 5spd still won btw....

yea...it was a really cool time...all of them were my friends and several other ludes, an M3 and a 300z came along to watch.

wat surprised me was the saturn...their first gr is no joke.

Okay going with ur idea I guess nascar drivers are not real racers cause they start from a roll and same with f1 and le mans.

-not many car topped out at 25 mph after 1920's.

i take what i am given. i had a bad record back in asia with my 5-spd (i was a teenager, and there were alot of hills...gimme a break)...so auto it was...

i will say this again...i know my car is slow...in fact really slow from 0mph...so why use that weakness and get my ass whooped when i can enjoy a close race ?

when did i say i swapped my transmission?

dudes, there are misunderstandings, i don't hate SS, i just made a comment on how strange the race was. If i think SS slow, then all preludes no matter what gen, what transmissions are slow. because none of the preludes is built for straight, preludes are built for its excellent handling. I believe most of you had at least spent $20000+ buying this car when you can get that GT mustang and smoke tons of cars on the street. but this ain't what i am looking for in a car, i want something handles good. this is why i got my prelude. if you guys think i have prejudice on preludes......i don't, because in my mind SS and 5spd handles the same, and this is all that matter with preludes.
