A rarity: a street race!

Wow, this section is dead! But I guess that is good because it means Prelude drivers are a bit more reserved and smart about not endangering themselves, right?

Anyways, I rarely race in my Prelude, mainly due to the fact that A) I rarely get challenged, and this ties in to B) time has left the 'Lude behind and the newer cars can usually take us, so no one wants to waste time with us Well, it may be different for you modders out there, but being stock, this is the case for me

Ok, so I did get challenged the other day though!! I was leaving class out in Manassas, and 234 is a very straight 2 lane for a good 3 or 4 miles. At one of the first lights, a Scion Tc is in the lane next to me. I was listening to music, not paying attention, and the light turns and he guns it, pulling away as fast as a Scion can pull away. I didn't think anything of it, until the passenger rolls his window down and waves me up.

I didn't play in to it, so he slows down instead, they look over at me, and he guns it again from about 45 MPH, trying to goad me on. I decide to see what my Prelude can do, so I downshift to 2nd, and wait for him to gun it again, and I unleash Prelude Vtec! Short 2nd, pull in third past him, a nice 4th and he is half a car length behind my bumper! Fifth gear, good night!

I slow down to let him try again, but this time we were at around 65-70ish, so I only DS'd into 4th, and he kept with me. He actually started to creep ahead.... but, I had to exit, so I couldn't stick around to give him any glory

This was my first race in a long time! Probably only the 2nd or third in my Prelude since I got it last year. I like this car alot though!

Well its nice to know that you have confidence in your Prelude.

I have only raced once against a friend in his cheap old car. Of course I won.

Ironically enough, after I typed this thread up last night, I left to go to my girlfriends, and a 4th Gen Prelude is going the same way as I am. I am not sure if it is VTec or not.. I saw the rims he had, so if I could see some pics of stockers, I could tell you for sure...

Anyway, we get stopped at a light; at green, we both take off, and like the Tc showdown, I really wasn't suspecting any type of race. He accelerates pretty good, much more than just a casual drive start from a light. The next light, the same thing: he speeds off, then slows down, and I catch up. I am not giving it full throttle yet, but at the next light I decide to throwdown.

As the opposite direction lights turn from green to yellow, I can see him revving/ creeping forward, and so I shift into first and slowly start to rev, and GREEN! I drop it, get a sweet lauch, pull ahead half a car. He is right there, but after my shift into 2nd, he starts to slip back but is still keeping up. Third gear and I pull cleanly away, but have to slow down because of another light. I make a right turn, as does he, and I slow down for him to catch up, as I wanted to give him a thumbs up, but he won't side up, and eventually he turns off. I wanted to show Prelude support! It was a good match!

So the last month has give me more races than the first 9 months of ownership. How interesting!

I wish I could capture something to show, but the infrequency of my encounters make that a difficult task

I wonder if there is a seat mount that would mount up on our passenger side seat for just such occasions?

**off topic** where did all the street racing threads go?

Not a fan of street racing but nicely done nonetheless. You should have downshifted into 3rd @65-70 though bro, instead of him slightly pulling you would have totally shown his ass.
