Raced a modded maxima

Well as some of you know, my o2 sensor was fouled and making my car run like an 86 mazda GLC :P well i finally got a new one and installed it today in the heat, blah. My car is back to its normal ass kicking mode with me as the driver

I was cruising along side Jason in his 2000 GTP and we see this prev gen maxima SE 5 speed with exhaust and intake (VERY LOUD, i think he had more than that, he said his Y-Pipe was broken hence the loudness and the massive top end heheh)

anyways we race a few times mostly from rolls in 1st some in 2nd, never hit a light. It was pretty quick. our 1st and 2nd gears were dead even, i'd inch him out at the top of second and start pulling a few feet in third every time but we never got to really go through 3rd or else i woulda shown him up.

He kept asking me to race again "JUST ONE MORE TIME!!" he had his girl with him and she didn't look very happy haha. Oh well, no video for this one, never got a whole race on tape. My friend riding in the GTP was trying to figure out the camera on his first time, so all you can see is the last few seconds of the race ah well. just thought i'd do the old typing thing, peace.

Do you really lose power without that o2 sensor?? Mine just went out a few days ago... What exactlyl do they do?

One more question for ya, and anyone else... At the track... what is your 1/8th mile time? The track where i live is only a 1/8th mile track, Jus woundering what u guys got in the 1/8th mile, and what would be an average time for a stock g4 VTEC lude (without working o2 sensors) be? thanks

what year is your lude? do you have an OBD1 or OBD2 computer and how do you figure your o2 sensor went out, i'll go post a picture of the fouled o2 sensor that i got from an exhaust leak awhile ago. Does your check engine light come on?

as for how it works, it reads the oxygen content in the exhaust fumes before they enter the cat (there is another one after the cat also but that one prolly won't be affected unless teh exhaust leak is near it) It adjustes the air fuel mixture accordingly and if it gets bad readings it will give you crappy gas mileage and reduced performance. If your check engine light goes on you go into diagnostic mode sometimes and it kinda puts the car into limp mode.

forgot the 1/8 mile times here are a few

1/8: 9.568 @ 73.82mph 1/4: 14.778 @ 94.36mph
1/8: 9.809 @ 73.05mph 1/4: 15.062 @ 92.61mph
1/8: 10.107@ 73.30mph 1/4: 15.416 @ 93.57mph

thers some variety all from the same day on my car to get the idea

I have a 96 Lude VTEC

I was driving around the other day and my check engin light came on... I ran a few test my sevice manual told me to run, and it told me that the o2 sensor was a possiblity, I had a tool to check the o2 sensor and it told me that it was bad, also while i was under there I did notice an exhaust leak... it had 3 little holes! I was really woundering what caused the o2 sensor the go, Next week im ordering a full cat-back and my o2 sensor, and also my tires i ordered from tirerack.com should be in by tuesday. thanks for the info

Last night was my first time at the track... some guys engine blew oil all over the track so I only got 3 runs in... I'm going back next week, I know I can do alot better since the o2 sensor is bad, the check engine light is on, and my tires were pritty bald (my kumho ecsta supra 712's ill do me good at the track)

Run 1 10.648.. missed a gear
Run 2 9.905 @ 73.25 mph
Run 3 9.853 @ 73.5 mph

Oh ya... I need to work on my reaction times...lol they were really bad... 0.926 on run 1, 1.214 on run 2, and 0.916 on run 3 THATS PATHETIC!

i have the 712s on my front tires, they're nearly bald after 8k miles combination of bad weather and beating on them. I'm going for a set of RE730s in the summer. Anyways don't worry about your reaction time unless you're actually racing someone. Its the 60 ft times that make the difference. With 2.3 60ft times and your 1/8 mile you should be anywhere from 14.9-15.2 in the 1/4 mile.

How much of a differnce do you think it would make if I didnt have check engine light on, working o2 sensors, and new tires?

How do you test to see if your O2 sensor is bad? I have a lot of black soot on my bumper and am wondering if thgis is causing it?

from your pic it looks like your exhaust is really close to your bumper and not sticking out, that will put soot on it. I don't think its the o2 sensor though, if you really wanted to check it you have to check the voltage on the wires of the o2 sensor if you don't have a check engine light. If you do have a CE light just go troubleshoot it. Its prolly just cuz your exhaust is before your bumper though. its normal then, some people even melt their bumpers if its too close hehe

To test my o2 sensor I had a nice littly electrical device that connected to the sensor and told me straight up good or bad! gotta love those devices! the only thing that sux for me is to replace the back one, so I have to take off my exhaust to get to it!!!

I think the sound of the exhaust at about 90-100 mph is very soothing.. makes me want to sleep like a baby.

hi h22accord buddy ;)

LC had a small exhaust leak on his header. In december he was rearended by a dip**** drunkdriver at 3 am which further opened up the leak. He drove around this way for awhile before getting the leak fixed. It was throwing a check engine light for a long time and the leak lead to the bad o2 sensor.

Hmmm. That sucks. I've never heard of that before. I bet he could have still gotten it warrantied if he fixed the leak and brought it into the dealership playing all stupid as to y it was throwing a code.
