Raced a few of my friend's hondas

all right guys, i got a 2000 prelude 5spd and i raced both my friends, albert (99 SI) and mike (95 4dr integra GSR) on the way and back from the bowling alley on the freeway.

when i raced the 99SI, we were going about 50, i threw it into 2nd and pulled on him pretty hard.

but on the way back from the bowling alley, when i raced mike, we were going about 70 and the first two times we raced i threw it into 4th and lost twice (i'm a newb to driving stick btw, just got my first stick car about a week ago). and then the third time we were going about 70 i realized i can downshift even more and then threw it into 3rd and pulled on him in 3rd but the minute i shifted into 4th he slowly crept up and passed me again.

i have a generic short ram and the 99SI has a J's racing intake and dc sport headers and the 95GSR has a generic short ram, jdm itr headers, carsound hiflo cat, and apexi n1 exhaust. shouldnt i be able to SPANK a GSR both on the lower and higher end??? and i shifted pretty descent from 3rd to 4th, his car just pulled a bit harder than mine when i was in 4th. do GSRs typically have a better top end than our ludes?? anybody else raced a integra GSR?

what are some helpful tips in racing....some things a newb might not realize he's doing or not doing. please help me out, im pretty disappointed that my friend's GSR pulled on me tonite on the freeway.

5th gens should be able to beat a 2dr gsr. mod for mod. and his is a 4dr so if you were as modded you'd win. you should really dip on an si

Do a little search in this forum, allot of experience's have been shared with these two common cars. I have posted allot too. My experience has been easy wins especially from a stop. Modded vs me stock, modded vs modded, etc.

Power vs weight ratio and mods play a good part. But just you noticed, driver ability plays even more important part. Once you become more farmilar with your car, standard manual rules, power shifting and others, youll do much better.

thanks, i was just worried that my "new" car was slower than a GSR....hopefully i get better as a driver and am able to romp on him, did you own him or was it pretty much head to head and you pulled just a bit harder??

My cuz has a 94 gsr with intake, header, testpipe, exhaust, stage 2 cams and chipped ecu. I have intake, header, testpipe, act clutch and xact flywheel. I beat him by 1.5 cars from a stop, and he can't pull on me from a roll either.

I raced a GS-R once. Got pulled pretty badly from a highway roll.
I was very sad. I was under the impression that ludes can pull on GS-Rs w/o too much trouble.
I had I/H/E/ESMM/Lean SS. God knows what the GS-R had, but VTEC was FREAKING loud.

hmmm....that's sad, so GSRs typically beat 5gen 5spd ludes??? i saw a 5spd lude at SIR a couple years back and it ran 15.3something and my friend with a 94 2dr GSR ran a 15.5-6 consistent.

also, i suck at driving so someone give me some tips...first time i raced albert (99SI) from a dead stop i dropped the car at around 3K RPM and my tires spun all the way up til 7K, so i ended up feathering it and caught up and beat him. how do you guys start out from a dead stop?? do you guys drop it at 3K RPM but half-gas it till it gets traction then fully floor it?? need some help, thanks.

Yeah I know. the GS-R I raced must've been modded.

I ran 14.8 w/ I/H/E. So I don't own a slow 5th gen either...

i think its the rims for you then man. I ran a 14.9 with i/p, then i put my buddies 18's on a couple weekends later i couldnt break 15.1.

GSR's really shouldnt be a problem for us, we have all the advantages. Especially staying in VTEC during shifting (if shifting at 8k), while they wait 800 rpm.

Well I ran 14.8 with the 18s... same setup when I raced the GSR and got smoked.
He can't be stock though. I mean.. he's VTEC was like world war 3.

^^ A GSR with I/H/E/Skunk2 cams tuned?..... There was a guy from where I am had a similiar set up he said he was running like 14.3's or something like that.

Wuttup Jay long time no see.

I think that there's a certain way you gotta shift when racing from a roll. you don't wanna down shift but roll in the gear at high rpm so you get a faster start instead of a hard jerk. Hope you guys know what I mean. For example if I was to do a rolling start at around 40 mph I would just put the car in 2nd it will be at like 4000 rpms and start from there. aight im done explaining i have a hard time doing so.

^^^ Haven't raced at all since 03 too, LOL. I kinda calm down on that stuff. It is my everyday car so I gotta take care of it until I get my new whip. I've been on here alot lately cause I'm trying to complete my OEM Lip kit got the front, and sides already and about to get the rear. I heard there's a group of kids now that hang out at the Blvd with Sti's that can't drive maybe we can try to take 'em down
