This girl in my car club owns an 01 grand am ram air GT. she has a cold air intake, dual exhaust, etc. she swears up and down that she can beat preludes all day long. now mine isn't that fast *intake header exhaust* but I think even though it's basically a stock prelude,*97 SH* I should walk her. I can't ever get her to race though. it's always a sat. night when we get together, and there is an abundance of cops cruising around. she also thinks a newer cougar *V6* with intake and exhaust can walk me. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see it. what do you guys think.
Well, cant guarantee, but Im pretty sure shes wrong. Grand ams weigh bout 50lbs more. And I dont think the put out much more hp. Honestly, id be cryin if you didnt beat her. Ive driven a 2000 Grand Prix GTP (Supercharged). Moderately fast, definately good response cause of the sc, but not as fast as the lude. Im sorry but a cheap american sports sedan vs a Japanese sport compact lude, I dont think so. As for the cougar. Crack that **** like it were an egg man. My x-roomate got the xr version (basically a gt) and ya it sucks. Cougars = suck. Just look up the stats on the Grand Am on the net. Stock Gt puts out like 170 hp and 200 lb-ft torque. "0-60 in less than 8 sec" which means 7.999999 (if your lucky). The only thing is its american, and american manfufactures like to choke the engine. So bolt on mods can add a good amount of hp, a dual exhaust could add some nice hp. It could be close. blah *** as grand am.
I used to own a Grand Am GT. Not fast at all. Lots of torque but got my butt kicked a lot. I smoked one when I used to street race my lude a couple of years ago.

if you have a prelude SS, dont race anything, just cruise around and act cool hahaha
but seriously if you are not racing for more than a 1/4-1/2 of a mile, dont try because it has torque and gets off the line faster...(shamless personal experience of defeat)
My girlfriend thinks she can take me at least through 2nd gear in her 97 Grand-AM SE. Im calling bull**** though, mayyyybe through first. Her car does feel like it may have a slight torque advanatage under 3000rpm's compared to my prelude(97 base), probably due to the 2.4L engine. after 3000 though, its all over.
yea grand am's and cougar's are both slow, the slightly modded grandam could give you a fun run but the cougar should be gobbled up for breakfast, lunch and dinner lol.

GTPs are slow??? Most of them run high 13's around here. Granted they aren't stock, but when all you have to do is change a pulley to knock half a second off the quarter, we don't have a chance. I think in stock trim they still pull mid-high 14's...and the Lude can't hang with that. Even a I/H/E Lude would have a tough time with a stock GTP.
