My '98 Lude vs. 2000 Mustang GT/'98 Dakota R/T 5.9

Hey, I have a '98 5speed Lude with short-ram intake (only performance mod, just got the car). Anyways I have a friend with a 2000 Mustang GT Convertible (stock) AUTO. I know that they have a 4.6 Litre V-8, but I have done some research...anyways should I race him?? I think it might be a good race, I want to bruise his big ego!!! Another friend of mine has a '98 Dakota R/T 5.9 with flowmaster dual exhaust. I heard that these trucks are actually pretty slow for the size engine they have. Anyways, I am looking for your thoughts on these two possible races, thanks a lot.

P.S. my kill list:

'01 New Beetle Turbo
'97 Prelude SportShift (Iceman CAI, Tanabe Exhaust)
'00 Grand Am GT (slow-ass car, idiot to race me)
'97 Nissan 240sx Auto

short list but I havent had my car long.

Both races would be VERY interesting. Im sure you could probably pull on the truck as long as you dont mis shift or anything. The 5.9 Dakotas are pretty quick for a truck, probably run mid 15's. The mustang will probably beat you but not by that much. The stock mustangs run flat 14 and the convertibles run mid-high 14. Good luck with both.

Hey thanks for your input, they were my thoughts exactly. I am 99% sure I would beat the Dakota just because it is much heavier, automatic, and the back end is so light it wouldnt gain traction. As for the Mustang, I was pretty sure I would lose, but I think it would be awesome for a 4-banger Prelude to go bumper to bumper with a 4.6 Litre V-8. Thanks again

Dakota R/T is high 14s, u are going to be very surprised when u race that one lol.. my friend with Prelude SH (i/h/e/pulley) could only pull ahead of this R/T he raced in 4th gear.. which when u think about it, is in the 100mph range. good luck

Are you sure about the mid 14's on the Dakota. I know that it is quick, but the amount of torque and the light back-end really slows it down. Also it is automatic. I have done a little research and I found that the Dakota's do 8's 0-60 as where my Lude does mid to upper 6's. Anyways, I think it should be a good race, regardless.

Dude...

I mean, it might not mean much coming from me, but I have raced both and lost to both of them. Both races were close though. The 2000 GT beat me by about 1 car length. And when I raced the Dakota, I stayed at mid door the whole time. But yea, they are both fast.

We know a kid that has a dakota r/t and even he says its not nearly as quick as it should be for the motor it has. You should be able to beat the truck and if you can manage to launch your car right you will beat that mustang I have a 1998 five speed and I have beaten two new gts already both were convertables both 5speeds. Just get that launch right and shift at 8k.

hey dumbass, read again! i said high 14s not mid 14s for the R/T. Ive been to the track plenty of times to know what times they pull. Like I said, he is probably going to beat you thru the first 3 gears, but you shold be able to start pulling ahead of him in 4th gear. i dont know if u wanna risk going that high of a speed tho coz thats well into the 100mph range.

if thats your kill list you're prolly gonna get your ass handed to you. Those are cars i would edge out by a little. THe cars you listed that you beat you should be putting 10+car lengths on them by the end of 3rd. if you aren't, you're going down to some autos

The reason that is my kill list is because I have had the car for only 4 months, and the 1st month was just learning how to drive stick...all those cars that I beat, I KILLED!! They were no contest, I don't even know why they challenged in the first place. I had atleast 10 car lenghts on all of them, and maybe more..except for the beetle, it is somewhat quick and I had a bad launch. By the way, I am racing the mustang for fun, cause this kid thinks he wil kill me, whether I win or not I don't care, I just want it to stay close to bruise his ego a bit.

And as for Mr. Passat, you need to calm down...calling me a dumbass over .2 seconds, ease up buddy.

I like preludes and all...but I think people overestimate the power them. Id take the mustang gt. As for the R/T, id say the lude...all
depends on the driver when you are driving a stick though. Trucks
just arent meant for racing unless they are gutted and you stick a
blower on them.

why can't we be friends....why can't we be friends???....

Well race them both. If they are beating you on the launch since you may not have it down yet, do a 50mph rolling start (2nd gear sweet spot). You should win if you shift fast and shift at 8k on the tach before fuel cutoff. let us know.
