An RX-8 pulls up next to me at a stop light with about a 2 mile straight in front of us. He revs his engine and so forth so I figure y not. Light turns we both go and what really surprised my was that I stayed right next to him untill about 65 or 70. Now either he just wasn't pushing the car or my expectations of the RX-8 were set to high. Does this seem right to u guys? I drive a 1999 Stock Type SH.

took a test drive with the rx-8, the suspension is amazing and the little rotary reved nicely, the revs are very smooth and went up quickly compared to everything else
Why is the new RX-8 so slow? Are they going to make a turbo version of the 8?
b/c ass all of us luders know, there is no replacement for displacement besides forced induction and technology. there won't be any "factory" turbos offered b/c car owners today are kind of unsettled about spending 40,000 dollars on a motor that lasts 40,000 miles. i only wish i could find one that would rev at me at a stop light.
easy.. low torque for a 3000lbs+ car.. and racing from a dig means torque>horsepower.. could you tell if he was a manual? my bet it was, due to him reving the engine and i think you would of beat the pants off of him if he wasn't
I've driven the RX8 as well and it's really not a good car for drag racing. The engine makes high horsepower because it has really high revs, not because it's extremely powerful. I felt like my Lude had a stronger engine, but without the extra 1,500 RPMS to play with I wouldn't be able to keep up with one in the long haul. The torque really doesn't come on until 4,000 rpms and the Lude feels even stronger at 4k than the RX8 does.
I totally agree that the suspension is unbelievable. I wasn't paying attention and nailed a nasty dip in the road at 40'ish and the car just floated over it where my Lude would have bottomed out and scraped up everything underneath.

I drove one also, I love the interior and the exterior is alright, looks sweet with a kit. Driving it the engine feels weak, there's no thrill, and it sounds funny. It has a very nice gearbox, shifts are quick, and it handles really well. On the highway it's very smooth kinda like the prelude, you don't feel the speed either going 80 feels like 60. Overall It a very solid car, mazda just needs to do something with the engine quick
i do towing.. andf i jus towed a 05 rx8 , engine lights goin crazy car wont start and it was jus buggin out.. with 300 miles on the clock , .. i would never buy one , and after seein and hearin about these malfunctions, i DEF wouldnt buy one..
my dad has a RX8 and i love that car... i think it's fast and it does handle liek a monster.... i have even drifted it a few times in a parking lot... very easy to control that car
another one bites the dust... another one bites the dust..
i raced one of these on the highway once.. the owner was mighty pissed that my "prelude" beat his "renesis" motor.. i was like what are u trying to say? that i drive a piece of crap compared to your SLOX8?? ok i didnt say that, but i was thinking that..

I like the car. 14.5 in the 1/4 aint to bad for what the car is working with. Black or red only for me. They do look kinda funny but when you buy a car which comes with an SCCA membership, it's a good car IMO.

dont get me wrong.. i love the looks, handling, and sound of the vehicle.. and i agree with the comment about black and red.. with the addition of silver.. i just expected more from this car when i raced it.. and didnt expect such a snobby RX8 owner..
