Lost to a b18 Civic

I was cruising the highway with my friend when we saw a black 2 door Civic with an Evo exhaust. I thought I would have a little fun with it so I drive along side and wait for him to go. We are buzzing around 65 and he is hanging back about 4 feet. I hear him go for it so I nail it. I am surprised as hell to see him pick up speed and pass me. He had me by two or three cars by the end of 4th. We lined up again and I did a little better, but same result. Once again I had my heavy ass friend with me riding shotgun. I need to find lighter friends!

Anyway, we get off the freeway and stop at a light. My friend asks him what the hell he had done and that's when he said he had a b18 swap. I am sure he also had intake, pulleys, and header so I don't feel that bad losing to him. I guess he was making about 195 crank hp. I was just blown away when he pulled that much on me. He seemed surprised when I told him that I just had basic boltons. I guess he expected to destroy me a little more.

Hey, I'm no lightweight, but when you have 230lbs of passenger riding shotgun, it can make a difference.

There is no way I would have beaten that Civic without a passenger. I know that, but it would have been closer. It does make a difference. I really notice it when I race WRXs. With both of us in the car and all my sh!t in the back seat, the car probably weighs 3450 lbs and that's a lot. I need to go on a diet and put my friend out on the street when I race.

ain't that the truth. The 5g prelude always seemed to me to be more affected than any other car I've owned when it came to the difference btw having one of your boys riding with you and riding solo.

You don't know for sure if a car has pulleys or not. I'm just guessing that if he spent all that money on other mods, that he probably also spent it on pulleys. I did line up next to another modded Civic and I heard a funny whine from the belts when he revved on me. It wasn't a supercharger whine, but that sound you get from an overtightened belt/ In his case I strongly suspected that he did have pulleys so sometimes you might be able to tell.

H22a Civic

I have a 92 prelude si with 229K hard miles on it... I am planning a H22A swap soon...

Have a friend that works at blue ridge motor sport in morganton, nc... he has a mid 90s civic with a JDM H22... took me out on the "landis straights" (for you kids from dysartsville) and grabbed second doing close to 50... (shift light 8200).. Vtec kicks in and that little sucker tries to takeoff before it realizes it doesn't have wings... we hit 100 in 3rd and that H22 is just a happily screaming along... CIVICS WITH PRELUDE ENGINES ARE BAD A**, no doubt... he has other upgrades as well, but the car has to be a good 500 pounds lighter... yeehaa!

I love swapped Civics. My buddy had a 95 Civic coupe with a B20 Turbo and that thing was quick as hell. I love the looks on the driver's face of a much faster car when he gets his ass handed to him.

I would agree... seeing as the stock redline is 7200... but what happens as you mod it to have a higher redline... we may have been just shy of 100 in 3rd... but it was very very close.. He shifts at 8200 instead of 7200... think that would make that much difference?

actually

I know that would push up the tops speeds.. I was just trying to be agreeable. since no one else posted after that I figured I would clear that up for myself. Don't guess I need a forum to converse with myself, so peace.
