Kills from the weekend

I had a good night Saturday. I faced off with my first time oppenent from a few weeks back who by the way beat in a bad way, but not on this night! We pull up to the line him in his VR6 Jetta and me in my 99 Type SH lude. I get him off the start and I never looked back, except to see him in my rear view mirrors! I ran a 15.28 on that run which happen to be my second time to run that time, actually I ran a 15.27. He tells me that he wasn't ready, so I say lets go again. ONCE again, I only see his taillights in my rear view mirror, didn't have the GTEC with me so don't know what time I ran. The other opponents were easy kills: a RS Camero, my first V-8 kill although it didn't feel right since that car is slow for a V-8, next was a Civic that pretty much hung with me. On one of the passes I ran another 15.28 so I pretty much think I have gotten all I can get out of stock engine, time to start moding the car. I find it best to start the run at 5K, the tires spin but they catch real soon after the start and drop the revs down before leaving first gear, so you have to let the tires take their course in first. After that the only thing I do is make sure I am above 5K before I let the clutch out when switching gears, plus I don't power shift. Anyway hope you learn a little I know I learn a lot on these boards.

yo

first off the VR6 if he knows how to launch should get you off the line, but if he does dont worry cause the Prelude will pass the VR6 in 3rd gear.

Second, Gtech is cool for getting a general idea but its not entirely accurate: its off by about a tenth or two. I wouldnt exactly quote it as my real 1/4 mile time until making some passes at the track.

Third, a Camaro RS isnt a V8 unless you are talking about the older 80's and before style. The newish looking Camaro RS's are V6s with the 200hp 3.8L engine.

Fourth, Youre getting the idea about launching, 5K rpms is about the spot to go from but you dont want your revs to ever dip down or bog down at all, thats bad. Feather the clutch a bit to keep the revvs from dropping. Dontforget to shift at the indicated 8000rpm on the tachometer. Fuel cutoff occurs at indicated 8100rpm.

Fifthly, good kills

Dude, if you're racing him and hes going the other way, I don't think it counts

good job btw, sounds like you know how to drive the lude! we are a rare breed hehe. You should try semi powershifting, this will probably shave off another .05in teh 1/4 mile. shift fast but don't grind, and leave the gas pedal a lil more than half way down. its tricky cuz you have to do it fast but not nearly as hard as powershifting or as dangerous

I made a couple boo boos didn't I, first it was a VR6 Golf and not Jetta and it was his headlights I saw not taillight, duh! But the camero was an 80's RS so it was a V-8, still not very fast if you ask me. I will have to try that semi-powershift move, if it will help and not hurt my clutch and transmission. Thanks for the advice. On one more thing I will have my first track times after May 26th that is when they start up here.
