Damn E30s

Got to wake this place up. I never race anymore really but my friend recently got a E30 325i Beemer and we thought we'd see how they matched up against each other.

Him: 325i with exhaust. Inline 6 with ~170hp/170tq from the factory I believe.

Me: Prelude SI with I/H/E

We found a long deserted highway and went from a roll at about 15mph. I got a small jump out of the hole but I was amazed that we were almost perfectly matched. His bumper stayed at my door through second and most of third, it was like we were stuck together. I then ****ed up my 3-4 shift when I touched the limiter just before shifting, which was dumb because I don't even make power around there but I guess that's what happens when you don't drag race.

At this point he had started just creeping up on me and was almost even when I shifted. Through 4th he continued to creep until we shut down at ~100 with my bumper at his rear wheel or bumper. Damn those inline 6s!! Was fun to see how they matched up and if I didn't hit the limiter it would have been even better.

Yeah, vtec would have kicked his butt, teh H23 just dies up top. I was hoping I'd squeak it out though but those BMWs have some balls. Too bad for me this is just his beater. His STI is a whole different ball game

Wait why did the E30 M3's have I4's but the 325s had I6? I guess I'll have to ask my friend who dad has too many BMW's than anyone will ever need. 3 E36 M3's,E31(850i), 2002, and a E39 540i. I have a stock Type SH and I race a chipped '95 325iS from a 50-110 roll once. Only got beat a couple cars cuz I was shifting SLOW.

Unless your friend did an engine swap, I don't think you have your motor specs right. I thought all E30s came with 4 bangers? Also, the E30 chassis is lighter than our ludes.

No, not all E30's were 4 bangers. The 325 was a I-6, and yes the E30 M3 was 4 cylinder.

my room mate has a 318ti hatch with the M3 aero stuff and suspension work. It runs circles around every car on the back roads... it also helps that he's a damn good driver.

edit :
Although on anything with a straight it just loses.

Yeah, I read that article forever ago when it came out. Those were two stock cars.

Yea but with the m3 suspension that 318 has become a whole nother car than just a slow soft 4 cylinder.

That I6 will have a much flatter-curve regardless of the numbers. On the other hand, even the older BMWs aren't light by any means.

E30s were ~ 2600lbs stock. Thats a good 400lbs less than a prelude.
