Argh! My 'lude lost to a GSR!!!

Okay... this was pretty sad but I half expected it. I was driving around town taking a potential buyer on a test drive. I showed him all the quirks and options on the car and took a couple WOT runs on the highway to show him what kind of power it had.

Well, we came back into town and I stopped at a gas station to let him drive. We go out through town and happen to see an Integra GSR that looks familiar. It's a friend of mine who ran a 14.9 at GLD a couple weeks ago. He's got i/h/e and that's about it... We got lined up at a red light and he knew it was on. My potential buyer obviously doesn't know how to drive the car yet so I told him to try and launch it. The AEM unit has a 2 step rev-limiter on there at 4krpms so I expected him to at least rev it that high. Green light, and he just gases it off idle. My friend just jumped 3 cars off of us and we had to play catch-up. 1st gear was all spinning, 2nd gear was also all spinning. We finally got traction in 3rd gear but by then he was 5-6 cars ahead and it was pointless. We turned off and talked for a bit and my friend was just looking at me with a confused look.

I guess it made him look good in front of his girl who was riding in the car with him. I explained to my buyer that racing is 70% driver and 30% car. I think he understood....

The worst part is... here's the mods on my 'lude

JRSC @6psi
Hondata Intake Manifold Gasket
Cone filter off of AEM CAI (it didn't fit)
Greddy Evo cat-back exhaust
AEM pulley on Power Steering Pump
Techedge Wideband 02 Sensor
AEM EMS

this made 219whp on the dyno and I'm betting that GSR barely makes 170whp with whatever he had.

Lets hope I can make the sale... $13k? anyone? '98 lude w/89k miles... manual transmission!

OMG!!! How is that possible? I can understand a bad launch, but you should have caught him in second and passed him in third. Wow!

I don't feel bad. I only wish we hadn't have picked on a very well driven GSR. I've beaten him in the past but I guess even with a lot of power (219whp vs. 165-170whp?) it still takes a good driver and someone who knows how to drive it to win. I guess this is one of those best case scenario vs. worst case scenario.

He says barely 170 whp and that is very generous, unless the guy can prove it. They run 170 crack hp stock and a couple bolt-ons does not make that much difference.

Personally, I think he should not have even posted it considering the circumstances of the race as mentioned before. A very unfarmilar/experienced driver, sloppy launch and no traction up till third could produce this result with a good driver in the teg.

He would have toasted this guy, trust me. I raced this guy a couple times during the summer around my town. 01 w/i/h/p/e/cat vafc. The first time we raced and I had i/e/p i ate him at the launch all the time by 1.5 cars. He kept reving the gas like he was spooling a turbo or somthing.

So we talked for a min, I instruced him on how to launch and we went for a couple more and some 20-30 pulls. I killed him. This arse's main excuse was his dc header had a hole in it. We met up again, out of 4 race's to 80-120, I burned him even caught up after a crappy launch and walked by in 3-4th before the qtr mile.

Yeah it is consideralby the driver, but more like 70/30 driver. Even if you dont know the car and its strong points, launching, gearing, handles, you can just follow the regualr "racing guidelines" and you will 90% of the time be the winner against someone that is very farmilar with their car, though quite slower. This could be for NA vs boost, stop from a roll, etc.

Essencially, this 90 would go down the better the cars match up. Down to a certain point that we like to call "a drivers race"

One Slow Lude - Your a WHORE! Post something usefull about the race or your experience. Or next time you will forfit your ATV!

The guy was still impressed by the power the car had. I did him a favor though. I'm picking up a set of SH rims to put on the car and taking off the 17's. I'll also put on a not-bald set of tires and hopefully he doesn't get embarrased like that again. Granted, under those circumstances, I expected him to at least fare somewhat well but you're obviously going nowhere if your tires can't hook up.

I'll set up a nice rematch for vindication, this time... I'll drive it. The worst part is, this little "race" set up some wild rumors around town about my car now. Apparently the guy with the GSR thinks he can now keep up with my Evo.

He's just got a grand delusion of confidence now that he can "take" supercharged and turbocharged cars... supposedly. I'll try to bait him into a money race against the Evo.
