my friend just bought a 99 type r and there was already a apexi exhaust on it when he bought it, he's got his CAI on the way and he just bought a hondata 4b (waiting for a harness) in preparation for next spring (turbo)... its gonna be fast.
There was a write up a while ago that compared the two... they are just about a second faster than us on the quarter mile...
but I was with him through the whole buying process (even got to drive it) and I can tell you a couple of things...
1)they are fast... but thats what they are suppose to be
2)they aren't very comfortable... if someone is sitting beside you, you can tell cuz they are RIGHT beside you. He just bought it a while ago (~month and a half) read... canadian winter, so we were both in our winter jackets. Not much room
3)same engine output + much lighter = faster.
but I would rather a larger engine with lots of potential then a smaller engine thats tuned out... where do you go from there?
plus my leather and sunroof and elbowroom more than make up for that second he gets on the track.
i ran a stock type R a while back. we were both stock and he had 3 people in his car, and I had my trunk gutted out (no spare, jack, trunk lining, etc). out of the 3 runs, i won by not even 1/2 a car length. his front bumper was at my front fender. i still won nonetheless, but only because he had 2 100+ lbs. passengers + driver. this was done at 56 degrees F at sea level also if that makes a difference.
however! i also ran a modded type R recently (headers, intake, gutted out interior except 2 front seats). he had his gf in the car, and i was solo. spare and sub box were in my trunk, so no weight reduction done on my part. i had an Iceman CAI and GReddy PE catback. he was a very good driver, getting me off the line and pulling hard! he got me by 3-4 car lengths.
subtracting out driver error (skill) and weight reduction, stock vs stock, the ITR will win. when both cars are modded, the results are endless.
Yea i raced one on the beltway and took em 2 our of 3 times. I had i/h/e then and from what i saw he only had exhaust. I didnt get to talk to em, just waved the last time i pasted em by hehe .
with a ss, i was beaten by about 3/4 car lengths, but it wasnt too bad. but took out my 02wrx and whipped his ass the other day by about 5 car lengths. hahaha!

Before I respond, a disclaimer:
1) I love my 2001 Prelude;
2) I hate the AWD Turbo cars;
3) I don't know you;
4) A modded VETTE can KILL a modded tsi or wrx or awd bullsh*t
So don't hate on the vette.

the lude has not but he said he didnt use it.. but my friend w/ the type R said he did.
the lude won by a car length.
so if he used a 65 shot of nos he would of been ahead by more than a car length right?
duh, i doubt ut buddy in the itr coulda heard the spray or anything over his exhaust, engine noice, etc. If the lude sprayed 65 it would been way ahead. They are both manual right?
I took out an ITR in competition...Does that count...he broke out with 14.9 and I ran 15.0...On the street I've taken 2 out with i/h/e...probably not the best drivers, or my Lude is faster than I think.

Doug?? What's up man? How's the lude?
Anyway, i've raced 4 different type r's.
The first one I just gotted raped. I'll blame my drivng cuz it was the first year that I had my car. As well, I didn't know anything about power shifting and stuff like that. Anyway, he was stock and he said that his car was actually faster than most type r's cuz he always ended up beathing other type r's by like 2 car lengths.
My second encouter was a victory. I ended up beathing him by about 1/4 to 1/2 a car length. Good race. I had an awsome launch. I could only see that he had an exhaust.
My third race was on a pretty long straight away. This race we got going pretty fast. Shut the race down at about 210 km/h. Off the line it was funny cuz we could hear the VTEC engagement points at the same time. I stayed with him until 3rd. in the end he was about a car length in front of me. I was pretty impressed. All I could see was an exhaust as well.
As for my fourth and final encounter with a type r, it was a friend of mine and we ended up racing about 6 times that night. I lost everytime. he had an intake and that's all. On one stretch of road we got up to 180 km/h and he was ahead of me by about 3 cars or even less. But at about the quarter mile run, he was ahead of me by about 1and a half to about 2 cars...if I remembe correctly. Anyway, his car runs 15.1 flat. His best time stock. This is about 4000 feet above sea level by the way. Oh yah, after when we talked, he was saying that it was actually a pretty good race and that most of the 5th gens that he races are pretty much a small spec in his rear view and that I woulda killed a fith gen. I haven't really raced a fifth gen before so I'm not too sure. I did race one 5th gen, but I'll say it was SS cuz I kicked the crap outta it.
Overall, some type r's are faster than others so it's kinda unpredictable what will happen. but fun none the less.
