97 base Prelude vs Civic Si

Not going to make this an english paper so bare with me...
Midnight run to get some food during work...going about 50mph in 4th...pull up to a blue Civic Si with a 3in exhaust, dropped. look over and he beeps, and drops it down a gear.. I do the same and run up to about 80. He pulls about 3/4 car length ahead....if we had more road would have gone till about 90, but didn't. He had a 1/2 sec. jump start on me..think he should have waited for me to respond, lol!

What I want to know is....I should have stomped him right? I know I'm probably way heaver than a Si non hatchback..but still. I have no clue what he had under the hood, but was probably just intake, exhaust, and small others. I need a tune up. lol!!

What year Civic Si?
Are you just assuming he had a 3inch exhaust?

No, it was 3in exhaust tip/muffler I saw it. Just saw the cat back of course. I would say it was a 2000.

2000 si have b16a gen2's, they are quick cars. If he hadn't got the jump you should have pulled on him, but not by much.

Edit *Just looked at your sig, what did you dyno? if he was stock and your car was properly tuned, you should have destroyed him. But I noticed a SAFC in your sig, so.....

What's the weight on the Civics? I'm not dyno tuned, only street tuned with a VAFC2 and PLX wideband.

2000 civic's weigh about 2600 lbs, a BB6 prelude around 3050 lbs. I believe that your problem lies in the tuning, what i would recommend is Hondata s200 and a proper dyno tune, I am sure you will feel/see a huge difference. A tune is the best thing you can do, you can get 20 whp out of a stock H22 with a proper tune. Now imagine what you can do with yours.

I don't know where you get your information...but you should find a better source before you go quoting others' info.

What he said^

20whp out of a stock H22?! If that were the case everyone on this board would skip simple bolt on's as their first mod's and just get Neptune RTP/Hondata/etc.

I would say you should have beat him for several reasons. To start I don't think he had an exhaust with 3inch piping it was probably more like 2.25 or something close to it. When I was in high school my friend had a black Si with intake, exhaust, and suspension work. I was completely stock and never lost and we switched cars just to throw out the driver excuse. Looking at your sig it seems like you would take him but then again a race from 50mph to 80mph isn't what I would call a legitimate race.

The only thing about your setup that I see may hinder your performance is possibly your tune. VAFC2 is good for WOT tuning only. I would switch up to something that isn't a piggyback and or take it to a dyno if you want to stick with the VAFC2.

I understand what I need to know about street tuning, and I have a great tune for WOT about 13:1/13:5, and the only thing a VAFC2 is really good for...and what the short race was at...WOT... If I had the money I would have already got the Hondata s200/or s300 hmm. but I don't lol, and why I got the VAFC and wideband.
--yea hondata maybe gor for 5-12whp.....on a stock motor
-- I'm 100% sure it was a 3in tip..don't know about the dim. piping going back to it.
--I'm sure I'm around 185whp +/-, maybe with a dyno tune I can get around low 190 +/-.

preludes are heavy pigs lol!

I hope you have more than 185whp with that mod list.

My SH put down 175/146 with just a AEM V2 Intake, Skunk 2 MP Catback, and VAFC-II.

The Si does have you in weight, though. Probably around 300 lbs, give or take...but he should be down on both power and torque by quite a bit. The B16A2 in my CRX put down 137/108, but I don't know exactly how healthy it was. I would guess the Si you raced was around 150 to the ground, which would make it a driver's race. ...and like you said, he did get a jump on you.

LOL!! man I feel like crap now. I was thinking about 2nd, but didn't want to accidently mis-shift down for a stupid 15 second race. Yea, I guess when Im going 70 in 5th, I can drop down to 3rd for about 200 rpm...but didnt think that quick about a 50mph downshift...whatev =)

I would love to get on a dyno, but need to find a cheap one just for 3 pulls around here...I have great street tune on the car for WOT though. 13:1-13:5 from vtec to redline.

* I bet that guy was lovin' it after....damn

Civic Si's are slow, doesn't matter what year it is. You should've beaten the guy, cause it's a Civic, but I bet he had some motor work done to the car if he beat you that bad. I've raced a few Si's and beat them pretty bad. It's either your driving skills or he had some major work done to his car, cause even if he had basic bolt on's, he still shouldn't have been able to beat you. Since you were going 50mph, you could've dropped it into 2nd instead of 3rd

Yeah you should've downshifted into 2nd. 2nd gear ends ~60. 3rd ends ~90.
