95 SE 5 speed Vs. 04 MINI Cooper S 6 speed

2004 Mini Cooper S specs:

Curb Weight: 2678 lbs.
Acceleration (0-60 mph): 6.9 sec.
Engine: 1.6L Supercharged I4 SOHC 16V FI Engine
Transmission: 6-Speed Manual
Horsepower: 163 hp @ 6000
Torque: 155 ft-lbs. @ 4000
Drive Type: FWD
Mods: Stock

1995 Prelude SE specs:

Curb Weight: 2908 lbs.
Acceleration: (0-60 mph): Unknown as of this point
Engine: 2.3L I4 DOHC 16V FI Engine
Transmission: 5-Speed Manual
Horsepower: 160 hp @ 5800
Torque: 156 ft-lbs. @ 4500
Drive Type: FWD
Mods: Ebay CAI, Universal muffler, Stage 2 clutch, 12lb flywheel. (Yup, I'm back to my stock crankshaft again.)

Now, We have that figured out. Heres the story:

I was out for a night of pool with my friends.. 1 Drives a 2004 Mini Cooper S and the other a 00 Z28 Camaro. Eddy, The owner of the MINI has been bragging about how fast he was, till I said I thought we should race to see what I have on that car.. He agreed and after pool, we went to the streets.

First, we started out going from a 60 mph roll, We took off on the third beep of the horn, and I pulled 1 car immediatly, then gained another car or so.. remainging there, until about 130 mph when we were at the end of the straightaway and shut the race down. I threw on the hazards to confirm for our friend in the Z28 who was right behind us pacing us. I asked his girl friend to try and hold the camera still to take some pics, but this is the only one that isnt a TOTAL blur.. No big deal you ghet the point.

I am on the left, he is on the right..

Second, He told me "that wasn't right, you should't beat me." So we took it to a side street, and raced from a dig. On the count of 3, and we were off. Immediatly again, I snapped a full car length before first gear was over with, and pulled another half a car length on him before shutting it down after doing 0-85. (semi measured 1/4 mile.)

I guess the trash talking is settled, Bretts (me) 1995 Prelude that costed me a few grand, with 150,000 miles.. Beat a 2004 Supercharged lighter car with a 6 speed in it and only 30,ooo miles.

Felt nice. K, Brett out hope you enjoyed the crummy pics, and the story.

I did too, till I got a ride in my friends. The thing will probably hand my ass to me on any auto-x circuit, or track, because of its awesome handeling with the sports suspension package, and the braking system is unbelievable.. he can use late braking, and i could be a pro at trail braking all i want, but ill still never be able to drive a track with my prelude like I could with that little midget car!

Well, heres the pros of it:

1.) I am at lower RPM's (by 50-100) due to 0 slippage while on the highway, where as my old clutch was so beat, it was always slipping.)

2.) Better gas milage, before it was a struggle to get 30mpg, but now thats common for me to get.

3.) It grabs like nobodys freekin business, I could rev up to as far as maybe 4,000 rpms, and it will grab immediatly, jerking the car forward into gear with out slipping.

4.) It delivers all my power to the ground like it should, and the 6 spring center can take a better beating (which I dont abuse anyway.)

Cons:

1.) It does grab so good in fact, that I kinda have to get used to giving it either a little more gas, or not pulling the clutch out so far.. (I'm also not used to it grabbing so low to the floor, it used to grab out at the end of the pedal travel.. so thats partially my fault.)

2.) I can't stop wanting to speed now that my car is fun to drive. Ok, so maybe thats a PRO also.

As for my 12lb flywheel, which I'm not sure if you wana know about or not:

Holy SSSS......tuff. In combination with my stock cranksahft, I have dropped my 0-60 time, by I would estimate a half a second +/-. It's really the best modfiication I've done to this car yet, first second and even part of third gear have really come to life because of the reduced effort it takes to spin the cranksahft.

Final note: My stock Flywheel, weighed more then my new 12lb flywheel, stage 2 clutch, and pressure plate.. After they were all put together (As a complete assembly.) I didnt weigh it on a scale, but to lift them up by hand, was a dramatic difference.

All in all, I'm extremely happy with this clutch, it may be a little to hard core for my lack of power, but It's all good I'll just have to ad more power now
